SVS, ABS light on

Hi, I have a 2000 Regal GS and the Service Vehicle Soon and the ABS lights are on. They are on all the time. My scan tool won't pick up any codes. How can I retrieve the codes? Is there any way to reset the lights? The car runs, drives, and stops fine. Any suggestions?

Re: SVS, ABS light on

Welcome to AF.

The scan tool must be ABS capable to pick up GM CHASSIS/ABS codes and to reset the codes. A common problem is a defective ABS wheel sensor located in the hub/bearing assembly. There are a total of 4. Two front, two rear.

Also, check the electrical connector at the hub and the condition of the wiring harness that runs along the lower control arm.

I can safely say I will never own another Buick and, frankly, I am so sick and tired of the continual problems with this car that GM has lost my business...

If you car is just starting these problems, do yourself a HUGE favor if you can and dump it now...trust me, it only gets WORSE!

What year and model Regal do you have? How many miles?

Re: SVS, ABS light on

bnaylor, thanks for the advice. I was able to find someone who has a GM tech II scanner and scanned the car for free. One code was found for the right rear wheel speed sensor. I checked the the sensor with a multimeter and its dead. I wish that i didnt have to buy a whole new hub assembly, but oh well. Do you know that if i replace the hub assembly, will the light automaticly go off or do i have to have it scanned again? Thanks, bronn518

Re: SVS, ABS light on

You're welcome.

Yeah, needless to say the whole Hub/Bearing Assembly has to be replaced. The GM ABS system used in your Regal runs two tests. One at startup where the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) self test and runs the ABS modulator/motor pack tests, etc. Then after in gear with forward movement up to a certain speed (low) runs tests of each wheel sensor. If the wheel sensor input is good then it will pass and all DTCs and ABS fault light should clear. So hopefully it will be OK after the defective hub is replaced. Good luck.
