If you're a hard driver, read this...
I found this article on another site...
Here is some info for some of you that may just wonder, about your motor and trans and other drivetrain related components that are affected by a brutalization by the driver. It is no surprise that many of use Civic owners beat our cars to the point that we question why it keeps going, perhaps, we think it may go faster, maybe we are in a bad mood, or maybe we just want to break the car, or find out the limits. I have a 98 civic ex with a 5 speed manual. It now has 60k miles. I have had it since 14k miles and since then have added your typical I/H/E, and a slew of suspension mods. I have used Valvoline Full Synthetic oil since 18k miles and since then have beaten the car hard, I would consider my daily drive "race like conditions" 20 miles of non stop full throttle, bouncing off the limiter, accel, high speed, hard breaking, 100s of gear changes, all for what? That is my driving style. I wipe out into spins on my way to work in 90 degrees turns throwing my car off road, only to slam it into reverse to dump the clutch to get going on the road again. Why? I love it. But what is the point of this? I recently needed an oil change, I do mine every 1500-3000 miles with synthetic which at 50k I switched to Mobil 1 vs Valvoline Syn. Since it is winter I took my car to Jiffy Lube where they stripped out my oil pan and nut causing an oil leak that left my car with .5 quarts left, I caught it in time to fill it up, but I wanted them to pay to have my motor ripped apart, they refused, so I paid and plan on suing them for the money, the point is after 60k miles, after inspecting the crank, the rod bearings, cam bearings, cam etc. Accoring to the mechanics and from my inspections these parts showed less than normal wear for their age, no signs of abuse. The cam journals were a tad scored but nothing more than normal wear. The further inspection revealed however, excessive wear on the clucth, flywheel, and throw out bearing, my motor mounts, are a bit taxed and I have some minor frame creaks from the suspension mods. So the moral, take care of changing your fluids, change your oil often, change your trans fluid often keep everything fresh, why? Because it is a testament to these little cars integrity that after this kind of beating they still run and run strong, and show little wear. So when you hear, "Those hondas run forever" It is true with mechanical proof, and some TLC they will take real beating. Thats it This article sure changed the way I drive.

I'm gonna continue driving the same, just keep the fluids flowing regularly.

an article like that isnt going to convince me to try and break my car. its nice to know that if it comes it, my car should be able to handle it to some extent though.

I don't mean that I'm gonna start diving like the guy in the article, but yeah, it's just good to hear that if I race my car a lot it probably won't damage anything. It just alleviates some concerns.
