oil change light

The oil change light on my 2000 Buick Century has never come on, even though I have carefully followed the resetting procedure. Any thoughts.

Re: oil change light

The GM oil life montoring system is very inaccurate and you cannot depend on it for oil change interval such as every 3K miles when running Dyno oil. Synthetic oil may be a different story since it is not changed out as frequently.

The computer does not base oil change on mileage but on engine parameters such as rpms and engine operating temperature. The oil change light should come on in a range of 3000 to 7500 miles but based on the above parameters and varies from car to car.

Under severe operating conditions the oil change lght may come on around every 3000 miles. Under normal driving conditions getting the light around 4K - 6K miles is not uncommon or abnormal. If you reset every oil change at 3K mile intervals then it is perfectly normal not to get an oil change light before the next scheduled oil change.

Re: oil change light

Once I tried waiting for the oil light; I think I went to 10,000 miles or so!
