Cool Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena GTB

Putting my money where my mouth is in regards to posting Ferraris. I took some better shots of my Modena coupe. This kit gave me fits! My first Tamiya model w/serious engineering problems.

I fell in love w/the Modena not upon seeing pictures. Pictures didn't do it justice. It was on the street when they were fresh off the boat when I passed one-the Ferrari dealer used to be 5 minutes from my house, so I saw the new stuff all the time on the road. I nearly fell off my motorcycle-it was gorgeous! Much wider and meaner looking in person.

The clear parts were basically too large. The side windows were a b**** to install, and while I was scraping/fitting the side glass snapped. I just about snapped myself. Ended up cutting the side window glass out, replacing the missing trim onto the body itself. Rear glass was another fitting nightmare, but it will go w/some work. Headlight covers...same deal.

Paint was another nightmare. I used Black Gold lacquers, primed w/Variprime which is supposed to block the nasties of lacquer. It didn't. Mold lines reappeared like magic when I clearcoated the model. Several times. Ugh. Then I crushed the A pillars by accident. This car's had more re-shoots "at the factory" than a typical GM product. Finally I persevered and the finish is muy fabuloso.

Finally I was able to assemble this beast, and the rest was perfect. Beautiful assembly and detail, amazing how well the engine/chassis just go together with the typical "shake the box and out it comes built" quality of Tamiya. I could shoot the mold engineer who got the scale of the clear parts so wrong (they fixed that w/the Spider).

Below you can see the interior easier w/o the side glass, that turned out to be a good modification.

Nice! But why is it labeled as a "GTB?"

Me thinks you got one of the early "buggy" versions of the kits that they probably fixed later on...price of being early, I guess

Just a habit I have for describing a fixed-roof Ferrari coupe. Veyron has a "prototype" GTS...

I'll post my Spider soon. It's gorgeous but the dark blue color doesn't photograph well at all.

I've alwasy wondered what a GTS 360 would look like, he needs to post those pics pronto.

I had some of the same problems as my 360 with the rear glass.

Looks good!
