if you replace the ign lock in a 98 that has passlock I(no resistor in key) then do you have to relean the security system ?

can yo do it yourself or can only a dealer do it ??

thanks

In a '98 what model? If it has Passlock you can try taking ignition to on for at least 10 minutes and off for 30 minutes. You may have to repeat. The theft deterrent module or BCM module should learn the new coding of the ign. lock cylinder. Good luck.

hi there it is an achieva

we tried all this, once the security light finally was blinking after i had disconnected the battery and the BCM and cleaned all contacts, so i let it sit with the key on til it stopped blinking and was solid and the it was fine for about two weeks, now its doing it all over again but worse than ever, will not stay running for nothing and all the guages and lights are fluttering and innacurate and all over the place worse than ever too, even the blue headlight indicator lamp in the IPC continously blinks all the time when its running/driving

i tried everything, to no avail, or for not very long anyways

the new ign lock didnt help one bit at all, even though the dealer said it was bad

so i pulled the IPC again and am having it sent in for a rebuild or replacement

any thoughts here ?

thanks!

I believe he has other issues JC but since we have the make and model established I moved this thread to Olds Achieva. Also, he has a thread on the IPC and Southern Electronics, a company that repairs IPCs.
