Question Code 20?

Okay, I am getting a code 20. WTF does that mean? I mean, I know it means "electrical load". But what does it really mean?

it means something is draining too much power...or not enough is being produced.

have you messed with anything lately? upgrade your system? replace your alternator anytime recently? what about your dizzy?

Well, when I bought the car, everything was a mess. The stereo had been ripped out, so I just recently installed a new one. Everything is hooked up to the correct wires, or so I thought. The alternator has been replaced before, as it is not a OEM alternator. The distributor is more than likely stock as well.

before we all sit here and guess, i have one more question. did you count the LED blinks more than once? sometimes people have more than one error code and not even realize it. just asking because a second code will help...

Yeah.

When I first turn the key to on, it blinks something like 4-6 times. then after that it just does the continuous 20 blinks. Over, and over again. Also, I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but my starter is just starting to go out. You know, where you turn the ignition, and it just clicks . Damn POS.

did u reset the ECU?? take out the hazard fuse (10sec or more) from the fuse box in the engine compartment, that should fix the code unless it's something else.

Uhh, thanks, I guess. How does that help me at all? I know what the code means. I am looking to find out what is causing it to do that though.

My car pretty much runs fine. I'm just curious as to why it's flashing.

i've been racking my brian why it would just do that but the car still seems fine. my best answer is...something came unplugged or is a loose connection. try the plugs on the driver's side firwall next to the shock tower, the dizzy, or the plugs next to the fuze box on pass. side shock tower.

if those are all good, let me know and we'll dig into the next neddle in the haystack. but since your car is still running, i'm guessing it's a loose or unplugged connection

I will do that today.

I have rechecked all the plugs that I could under the dash. But while I was doing that, I remembered that the previous owner had white indiglo gauges installed. Again i checked the wiring of those, and it all appears fine. But then I thought, wouldnt they need to be turned on to cause a bad electrical load? Ahh, the joys of buying a previously toyed with car..

I fixed the code 20. It seems some of the wiring on my white face gauges had been ghetto rigged. All better now.
