95 Astro CPI

I'm looking for a picture of the CPI/spider- I need to replace mine, and am not sure how to remove it from the vehicle- I understand there are 10 bolts- anyone have a pic? Anything special needed? New gaskets, etc.?
Dealer wants $900 to replace- I'm going to try the pressure regulator for $40
Thx

Re: 95 Astro CPI

Have to remove the intake manifold? Dang- was hoping it was easier than that- on top of the intake manifold or something. My manual even has me remove the distributer- not going to be an easy fix...
I hate dealer sevice....

Re: 95 Astro CPI

Here's a good post on the 4.3 CPI repairs with lots of pics. It's from the Bravada forum but the same engine. Just a little easier job on the Bravadas.

Re: 95 Astro CPI

I didn't have to remove the dizzy on my 95. It only took me about 1.5 hours to do the job. Make sure you get the poppets seated good. I didn't and had to take it all apart again! Uggh.

Re: 95 Astro CPI

Thanks for all of the info gentlemen, I've procured the parts needed, and am ready to start the repair. NAPA had everything- wonders may never cease...
Now, I've been told that one can relieve the fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump ckt breaker, and running till the engine runs out of fuel.
I jsut can't seem to find the fuse/ckt breaker- any ideas, or should I just bite the bullet, and loosen the fitting?

Re: 95 Astro CPI

Well, I've finished the repair- took a while(better part of 6 hrs.), but it's done. Couldn't have done it without the help of this forum- many, many thanks to you!
Helpful hint I learned- There are 10 bolts- there's one center front on top- once I found that, it seperated easily enough.
I loosened the oil filler tube- made the job a lot easier- too tight on the driver's side with the cable harness otherwise. 1/2" nut holds it onto the back of the a/c bracket, and other side just pops out of the valve cover.
Had a small puddle on both sides- replaced the fuel lines(nut kit)(difficult to pop new ones in- tough angle for leverage), and the regulator. All told- <$100 in parts- big diff from $900 @ dealer.
Started right up- always a good feeling.
Relieved the fuel line pressure @ the fuel filter(under side of van- driver side), and replaced it at the same time.
Whew- on to the exhaust, and rear brakes.....
Again, many, many thanks!
