2002 Grand prix deck

hey, has anyone ever replaced the stock radio with an aftermarket? Does the stock one need to be "relocated"? any info would be greatly appreciated.

2002 Grand Prix SE 3.1 V6

Thanks

Does not need to be relocated but you will need an install kit to make it look right. They usually come with a mounting plate. I also recommend the wiring harness install kit. Works great and you don't have to fish for wires or make connections inside the car. Just wire it and it is plug and play.

Re: 2002 Grand prix deck

wow, great, thanks gtpdad. I already have the pioneer deck wired directly to the correct wire harness plug so I dont have to destroy any wiring. Any ideas how to get the old radio out? How about this. The lady wants to interface her ipod with the pioneer deck. I can get the adapter, but how would you guys recommend mounting it? I was thinking mount it behind the dash, then run the plug for the ipod to the glove box that can have the ipod in and be locked. Is there sufficient room behind the dash for the interface? Any insights?

Thats great about not having to relocate the old radio, but are you sure? I was looking at the wiring schematics at my school, and it apperas that the data line does go to the radio????? Will I lose the chime module, or possable set a DTC?

What about the factory amp. Right now her car bumps very good, and i know just by the sound that its got a factory amp. Where is this located? Do i have to bypass that or can an aftermarket deck work with the amp without blowing it up?

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!

I'll post pictures if I ever have time to get this project done.
