My friend bought it very cheap with low mileage and I have to admit the responsive 100hp accelerate that lightweight (770kg empty) car quite quickly and it's fun to drive
Does anyone else had some experiences with it or knows some good effective mods?

94 Swift

I drive a 94 Suzuki Swift, it's fairly guttless, but absolutely the best car on gas. Without the 5-spd, I'd be horrible to drive, just because it's the easiest clutch ever, and standards are so much fun. If you ever get beside me, I'll race you, but I'm fairly sure I'll lose. I'll have fun anyway! Top speed- 140 kph.

NOw, it is not fair to say your car is guttless. We've peeled the tires with 4 people in.

Yeah, but it still doesn't accelerate well. The only two reasons we can peel the thing is that it has tiny tires with little traction, and that it's a standard.

Talking

We have a 2000 Suzuki Swift

Very nice car... It's for anyone in the family that needs to commute somewhere. Pretty peppy, nice smooth ride, and 42 MPG!

This particular thread was initiated to discuss the GTi...and the "gutless" model talked about here is the base model. Two different things.

The (American) base engine (1.3L SOHC 8-valve 70hp) was adequate. It's no rocket, but it gets the job done and uses very little gas. It's hardly gutless.

The GTi/GT is completely different. This car had a 1.3L DOHC 16-valve engine with MPFI producing 100hp. While that may not seem like much, the car only weighed about 1800lbs. With 4-wheel disc brakes, a tight 5-speed, very nice steering, and good handling, the Swift GT was the best sporty car buy on the American new car market.

They sold in the US as the GTi (1989-1990) and the GT (1991-1994) and are fairly rare. Odd, since this fun little car cost only about $10,000 new.

As for performance upgrades, Jackson Racing used to (I don't know that they still do) carry parts for the Swift.

I have a `90 Swift GT. It's surprised more than one driver on the road. I've had it since new and, mechanically, it's completely stock.

I owned a 1988 Suzuki Swift GTi for more than 2 years.

It really was a great car to drive. It had a great handling, because my car was lowered 4 cm. It looks much better and it drives even better.

But i've sold my car for a 1994 Peugeot 306 Cabrio.

Re: The 1987 1.3 GTi

I have a 1987 GTi... It has great handling and speed... It's still standard stock, 190kph is what I've had it up to... but ran out of road... Wicked little cars... They are quick off the line compared to most cars...
