Ranger Transmission

How do you change the transmission fluid and filter in a 2000 Ranger XLT? Manual 5 speed. Thank you in advance. This is getting more necessary by the day.

I am not a transmission specialist by no means,
but I do not think that a Manual Tranny has a filter.
Just two plugs in the side.
Be careful on which two you pull out though,
might get the wrong one.
One plug is for draining (bottom)
other is for filling

the manual tranny has no filter. ford says that the fluid is good for the life of the vehicle and never needs changed. if u do want to change it u can drain the old fluid out and refill it. this is a pain because of tight space to work in. u need some kind of syringe to squirt the fluid back in. u need to use dextron/mercon automatic transmission fluid.

I know this seems like a stupid question, but are you sure it is a manual? Only automatic Rangers have fluid filters. Therefore, if you are working on a manual, don't bother with a filter because there is no filter. About the fluid change...drain the fluid from the bottom plug, and fill it with 5.6 pints of Mercon automatic transmission fluid. through the side plug. It will spill somewhat, because of the bad clearance, but don't worry. Very simple procedure.

there should just be a plug on the side and then you just pump it in the tranny.
