Blaupunkt Acting Up...!

OK, I got a new Blaupunkt Austin a few months ago to replace my old Sanyo HU. Now when I first got the unit, it was playing great, but then just after a couple of weeks, it seems like it started to skip every now and then. I just put up with it, and then today, I was driving and it skipped about 7 times in an hour. I was about ready to take it out and throw it out the window. I payed good money for this new unit ($180) and I know that they are not the best, but that they are good units. Anyone have any clue as to why my CD player is skipping? Is the lens just dirty? Should I get some CD player lens cleaner?

Thanks!

No, I called the place that I got it from, they said that they can no longer do anything about it, I waited too long. I should have just dished out the extra money and gotten the Pioneer DEHP6400 like I wanted. Do Blaupunkt have a reputation of being like this? I thought that they were supposed to be good HU's?

Some CD players are just pickier than others. Although the place you purchased it from may not honor a warranty, Blaupunkt might. It is possible the lens has gotten dirty. They make lens cleaners, but it is NOT a sure fix - especially since it started skipping so early.

pioneer kicks ass, shouldnt have given a second thought about buying that. as for blaupunkt, i hear they are decent, but not many people have them, especially compared to the amount of pioneers you see. to me this means they arent worth the money, otherwise they would be more prevelent. good luck getting it fixed.

I just got a lens cleaner from Wal-Mart and that did not seem to help any. I was on my way to class today, and there it was still being a POS. Sometime when it would go to the next track after the previous track was over, it would skip the first 30 second of the next track. Also, Ithe only thing that I can figure out, is that it will not read over the smallest little scratches. On one song, it skipped and then I went back and listened to it again when I was at a stop, and it skipped in the exact same place on the track. Should I just send the Blaupunkt that I have somewhere to get fixed, or should I try to sell it on e-bay and just get a pioneer? Anyone else have any suggestions as to why this is happening to my cd player and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

what typically makes a CD skip is one of two things - scratches or insufficient motor speed. Some CD players are better than others at reading thru scratches. If the motor cannot keep up the speed required to keep the digital steam going, it will drop out some of the info - which will be represented by what sounds like a skip. The same will happen if the rail the CD pickup rides on becomes dirty, and the player cannot precisely place the pickup quick enough. This is mostly wear and tear stuff - I suspect the problem with your player is a misalignment in the pickup somewhere.
