2001 intake manifold

Hi, I've got a 2001 grand prix with a intake manifold problem which'll probally have to be repalced. My buddy says the car's coolant and oil mix together, which is evident in both the oil pan, and the radiator flluid. One repair shop said it's the intake manifold, i'm thinking its probally just the gasket. Could be a shot water jacket, car's only got about 93,000 miles on it though, little early for that.

If it is the gasket/int. man. whats the sequence and torque specs for it?
thanks

Re: 2001 intake manifold

Which engine?

Based on your symptoms it sounds like the lower intake manifold gaskets.

Re: 2001 intake manifold

Don't know the engine size, but either way, i keep reading about gm gaskets and the coolant they put in stock with cars around that year. Probally is the lower gasket. Can anyone get me a thorough removal/installation guide on this. Like a mitchell or an all data or something?

Then which model. SE, GT or GTP? The procedures are different since '97 - '03 GPs can have a 3100, SII 3800 or SII 3800 supercharged engine.

You have a 3100/3.1L SFI Vin "J". The lower intake gaskets are a common problem on the GM 3100/3400 engines. GM came out with revised gaskets but it was after the 2001 model year.

Do a search for old posts with keywords "intake manifold" and "3.1". There are some DIY R&R procedures posted. Good luck.
