Who knows some mods for that car? I know it has 190hp stock out of its turbocharged 1.8l. I heard that this car is awesome to mod 'cause with only a few changes (without touching the turbo) you can unleash easyly additonal 30hp or so. Has anyone had any experiences with this car? I thought about purchasing one but first I want to know what I can expect from it, also the front bumper disturbs me (damn huge).

I own a familia, and they are VERY responsive to airflow mods, for example 3" exhaust, air filter, and more boost..

bigger injectors and new ECU are good mods...

Im getting some series 6 RX7 injectors for my familia so i can up the boost more..
any more questions regarding familias ask away!

Apparently that engine fits in my '91 Escort...I'm considering that as my next mod...a 110 hp boost from stock is pretty good....

You guys are talking about the GTR, which is rare. I will be most likely getting a GTX soon, which has 132 hp stock.

Do you guys have RHD over there?
GTR's are everywhere here in NZ. Very good cars.
240HP shouldn't be to hard to get from the GTR.
Go for a 2 1/2"-3" exhaust, Cold air box, bigger intercooler, bigger throttle body, colder plugs etc, wind up the boost to 15psi and hang on. Then of course thereare the more serious mods. Luckily the GTR has all the good bits inside and a bigger than GTX turbo. G/boxes are there week point though
There is also a GT-AE model which is the light weight version without sounds, air cond, electric windows etc I think these also have a closer ration g/box as well.

Its the older 1.6 DOHC Turbo from the previous shape 323 that fits on your car. Its 160hp stock, and is good for about 200hp with only basic mods. (no internal work)

The Newer 1.8l GTR's have lots of potential, but only if done properly, In stock trim there about as fast as my car, (faster of the line of course), however Iv absolutly thumped some clearly modified ones, When it should have been the other way around.
I can only assume that they were not well modified, prehaps used too larger an exhaust for thier boost levels, or miss installed a BOV, and messed something up.
So although thay have lot of potential to be very fast, (and Iv seen some fast ones) I assume they don't respond well to the wrong Mods, and can actualy lose a lot of hp.

Isnt this that low gear that its pulling redline in 5th at 180k or something. I cant rember the figure I think it might have been even worse than that.

GTX are not great cars, theyre easily modified to become pretty fast but theyre also easily modified to blow up the gearbox. even standard ones have trouble becuase the gearboxes are too weak. Also the electric windows seem to shit themselves on almost every model.

I keep hearing that I can take a stock one but ive never tried. The only car ive raced was only to 100k and was a SJ (maybe SV cant remember) limited levin, so that wasnt a great contest

I am not sure about the gearing but those figures wouldn't surprise me.

The GTX's are a great car i thought.
Most 4wd's will break their gearboxes if driven hard enough. It's hard launches that break them. I only broke my gearbox once and it was a shaft that doesn't usualy get broken according to Neil Alport.

The electric windows in my car never played up and I don't know of any of my mates that had problems with them either? between us we have had 7 323's.

um yeah im having problems with mine, they lower but arent to keen to go up, well in certain weather conditions it almost seems to me

they go quick and have a great motor but the gearbox & drive train suck badly & gtx's are no competition with gsr lancers

there is a 400hp tx3 laser (gtx basically) in aussie

I have heard from dozens of other sources that the gearboxes are the weak point. About 200hp seems to be the limit. But one guy had his at 210 at the wheels (260 or so at the crank), and he hadn't had any problems. Probably the best way to fix this is to have the gears cryo-treated, which increases strength up to several hundred percent (but a low figure is maybe 20-30%)

Most 4wd turbos have a weak point, Ive been told the VR4 Galant is good but all the other cheap ones, ie GTX, GSR, WRX etc have weak gearboxes, but the GTX is especially bad for it

na the gsr and all mitsi box's are all good

gtx ones as well as the tx3 cos they are the same basically are shit, u cant do anything with them and they break all the time

im lucky enough to not break mine but thats cos ive got a soft clutch that slips instead, at the moment my center diff is fucked and the car wont move cos the clutch is stuffed
