What I did this weekend (WARNING not for the faint hearted)

Well here are some pics to show Spec2 that it was definately NOT band camp:finger: :finger:

before:

during:

after:

Rabbit is yummy. These were bred for sale to resturants and not pets (for those that were concerned).

The reason was for survival training, they also had to catch and prepare eel as well (which I must say was tastier than I expected)

actually that brings back some memories of when me, my brother, and his friend used to go out when we were like 13 and camp out behind his house. He lived out in the sticks and we'd go hunting with our bb guns and stuff. It was great.

Nice pictures!

Did you know that you can twist a Rabbits head a full 360 degrees around and it won't break! The rabbit will suffocate to death because its wind pipe gets crushed, but it wont snap the spine.
To kill it quickly you actualy need to pull the head away from the body, which severs the spinal cord. (its the same for most small mamals, cats, some dogs, rats, etc and most birds)

And I wondered what sort of bunnies they bred for resturants, I wouldn't want to eat any of the Wild ones, they're full of all sorts of unknown diseases, thier as bad as possoms. But the white ones must be quite disease free (as thier usualy bred as pets), and I take it have been raised in cages, which would have made catching them DAMN easy, some survival trianing.

And eel!! Oh I love eel!
We used to catch them all the time on cub and scout camps. You hang them up on a tree, gut them and let them bleed out, then cut the skin in a circle behind the head, and grab it with some dry news paper and peel it down and off like a condom. (its the only metophor I can think off, and theres that fishy smell as well).
Then you can either smoke the whole eel (mmmmmm NICE!) or slice it in to steaks and fry it! (mmmmm also NICE!).
The little small metre long ones are the most tender and tasty, but the big 2 metre long monsters are more fun to catch. (especialy when your only 12yrs old, and thier longer than you are tall. )

YAH, ditto that sentiment. I'm sure rabbit is tasty, but they are such cute little buggers that I certainly would never want to see one of them on a plate in front of me.

And you think the way they slaughter beef, lamb, pork and poultry is any more humane ?

And rabbits are a pest especially in Otago. A while back I was travelling through in a camper van and a number of rabbits darted in front of the vehicle, I swerved violently. My companion stared at me and she asked "Did you miss?"

"Nope, I got at least two with both the front and the back wheels!!!"

"What!!! You killed Peter Rabbit!"

That's when I knew I was in trouble... the trouble with the silent treatment... it's good while it lasts but it never does...
