Time before masking a painted area?

Hi guys!

I am doing two Xanavi's cars right now. I painted everything with white primer, masked the red section and painted TS-76. I removed the masking tape, everything is perfect. Now I need to paint the red section, so I need to mask the silver section.

My question is, how much time do I need to wait for the paint to fully cure? I don't want the tape to peel off the paint. I painted the silver part two days ago.

Thanks!

Re: Time before masking a painted area?

Two days should be plenty. If TS-76 is Tamiya rattle-can, overnight would be fine in my experiences. Their spray paints are synthetic lacquer so they dry and cure pretty fast.

Thanks a lot, that's what I was thinking too.
It seems perfectly dry, but I didn't want to screwed the paint job

Re: Time before masking a painted area?

be careful with tape on silver based paints, and gold as well, I have always had problems with the metalic part of the paint causing a "dusted" surface, and when you peel the paint mask off, it will have either bled under the tape, or the silver paint will be marred by the tape (tape pulls the "dust" off of the silver making it a little lack luster, and uneven looking)

I usually either spray the silver last, or clear coat it before masking. and I don't give the silver very much time at all to set up and cure before clearing it, this seems to help with the clear coat adhearing to the silver.
