98 lumina LTZ vs civic si

I took a 97 si and smoked it with a 98 Lumina LTZ.

He had some cheap ass mods like; Intake, Exhaust, Carbon hood, wing, and body kit.... nice car just needs work!

Simple: for 8 or 9 intersections across OKC i raced this dude.. his 1.6L DOHC ( i think, whatever) 5spd vs. my 3.8L 4spd Auto with overdrive, all stock, just 95ish octain gas... every stop light... wasted him, he's a kool guy and we talked afterwards but bad shifter and kinda slow car.

wow theres my race story.... .yah!

Congrats.

Come back with a story of a car that can actually give you a decent challenge. Beating up on an econobox is barely reportable (unless done by another econobox or the driver was a jerk)

Yeah, I think a Lumina with a 3.8 isn't exactly fair. That car you described seems to be about the textbook description of rice. Was he leaning towards the shifter as he drove?

Hey wait a minute....I just realized something.....they didn't make the Si in '97, there was a gap between '93 and '99 where they didn't make Si's!!! What the hell?

I'm gonna say good kill, but he must not know how to shift at all. Cause i've beaten two Z34 lumina's in my 97 accord. And its basically stock. The year might have something to do with it i guess, but i dunno.

WOW replies!..... Um details.... like I said an all stock 98 Lumina LTZ vs. a ~cheaply~ moded civic Si, he has the crome cone intake, new exhaust, 5spd... don't really know the dude so I don't know he car inside and out... he did shift pretty good... banging those motor mounts and scratchin at 1,2,3 gears... didn't really say it was an impressive race but... I just had my moment of glory

The guy was claiming it to be a '97 I didn't want to try and "disprove" that because I don't know my Import body styles with years.... and the Lumina Z34s had a Weak ass 3.4L V6 instead of the more beefy 3.8 SERIES II.

When I saw the title for this Topic, i was like...ok this is a joke...the LTZ will obviously come out on top........it's not even close to a fair race......unless one driver is really good...and the other is horrible.....i think a close race with you would be a cutlass supreme...like a '97, or a grand prix or something.....again...around a '97 or '98

I was reading trade express today and saw an ad for a '96 honda civic......Si......OOPS! So just disregard my previous post. And I think you guys aren't giving the Si enough credit. 15 flat second car off the showroom floor. That's not blindingly fast. but it'll keep up with a lot of the more expensive cars out there. I mean who can deny a naturally-aspirated motor that puts out 100 hp/liter? (1.6L/160 hp).

ya i dont think they are giving the si any credit, i mean you are talking about a 3.8v6 versus a 1.6 4 banger. I have respect for engine's than can pump out a 100 horse per liter. If chevy was making engines like honda, your 3.8 liter car would be putting out 300+ hp. Gotta love the american muscle cars, but it just seems to me that we have some catchin up to do in the technology race. My 2 cents

Doesn't have anything to do with catching up................who the hell would want a little ass 4-banger in a big car like a Lumina LTZ.........plus.....if every engine put out 100 horses per liter...there would be a shitload of load.....high revving cars.....and who the hell wants that....i perfer the low exhaust note of a V6 or V8

I liked his car..... the front of it, in my rear view mirror..... but I like the Si alot more than my car, cuz it just looks more sporty... with the body kit.... hmm maybe if i spent 5k on a CUSTOM shogun body kit my car would look koooool too.:jump:

I wasn't saying that you should go from a v6 or v8 to a 4banger. I'm just saying you should have more respect for engine that can put out respectable numbers for their size. And so what if the engine was highER reving? You're telling me that you wouldnt want your v6 putting out a 100horse per liter? I guess whatever floats your boat.
