Current Fuel Prices (September 2006)

I was just wondering what gas prices were across the U.S. and in Europe and everywhere else as well. Since the last time I filled up it has dropped roughly 60 cents a gallon and I fill up on average every two weeks. Word going around here is that it's suppose to be back right around 2 bucks a gallon in the Thanksgiving - Christmas area.

Just wondering what everyone else has heard.

Re: Current Fuel Prices (September 2006)

Filled up a couple days ago for $2.25/gal.

Filled up last week in Inverness, Scotland for .98p/Litre. (for those that are doing the math, that's about 7.25 a gallon)

Re: Current Fuel Prices (September 2006)

The .98 per litre is in pounds, so almost 1 pound per litre, 3.7L per gallon so about 3.62 pounds per gallon. Since it's about $2 per pound right now, double that for 7.25. But keep in mind that pay in the UK is figured in pounds.

You gotta remember they pay way more for gas in Europe than we do and they don't bitch and moan about it cuz thats the way its always been and their economy is set up such that paying $100 a tank doesn't leave them starving for the rest of the week... most people at least

I don't know. The Thruway stations adopted a new policy a couple years back where they change their prices once a week, and before they do that they survey gas stations around them then average the price out and that's what they charge. This actually worked out great here in Syracuse last year after Hurricane Katrina when prices were skyrocketing everyday. The Thruway stations sometimes were 0.20 cents cheaper or more on occasion, and our local news did a story on everybody getting on the exit before the service center just to buy gas. There were lines in Syracuse and Chittenango for a couple of miles or so waiting for gas.
What I don't understand is that a news story yesterday said that gas prices had dropped 0.60 cents in the last 3 weeks and in our area the prices have only decreased about 0.16. I paid $2.79 a gallon last Tuesday at a local station that lowers prices about 5 to 7 cents a gallon on Tuesdays. Now the average price in the area is around what I paid then.
Another sad thing is how we've been "conditioned" to these higher prices over the last year or two, and we "cheer" when the price goes down to a level that is still way higher than say 3 years ago. It's what the oil companies had hoped for. I came across a receipt from March 2001 where I paid just 0.79 cents a a gallon for gas, which didn't last very long. I think that's when the oil companies really started to raise prices on a regular basis, especially after 9/11.

Re: Current Fuel Prices (September 2006)

$0.79 per gallon in 01? In NY area? That seems so extremely low! Are you sure you weren't just short on cash and had to use the spare change in your car to make it home?
