Question Do I drive that Bad? Or is it Just a neon thang?

I Just got my 2001 dodge neon about 2 months ago with 19,000 miles on it. One day (at 21,000 miles) I was driving along "vroom Vroom" and all of a sudden "Gleeer Clank Clank" Car stopped moving. ITS A NEW CAR! what could be wrong? Well, As I was going to push my car off to the side of the road I realized that I could shift without the clutch in.. Oh my I dropped the clutch! I was not sweating it that much I am warranted by dodge still and have another extended warrantee... I had the car towed to where I got it with a long nasty letter of how this is a new car and stuff... No ruling out it could be some thing other than the clutch i mean it has 21,000 miles on it would you think it was the clutch? but they had it towed to the nearest dodge dealer and they said i broke my springs in the clutch plate and i would need a hold new clutch assembly (being VERRRY rude i might add) And its not warranted by either companies (dodge only covers clutches for 12/12) and they said it was like $850 to fix. SO, because they were so rude to me I found another place to do it for $250 labor and just bought a performance clutch for $300 (need one any way)
I was taught how to drive every thing under the sun sense I was 12 years old im a very good driver and shift standards well, but besides my old 85 chevy "unkillable" chevette this is my 1st standard... but in conclusion to this long pointless story was it a girl thing or a dodge thing? So could someone help me out?

"Jessica"

Unhappy

I'm not doing any thing that would make it go out in 2,000 miles... I don't think. I Know that I don't down shift when I stop I just throw it in Neutral and push the brake I know that's not the best thing to do but that should not cause it to go out that fast. A few times when racing I would let her hit higher RPMs than skip 2nd I did that about 2 times to see if it made me faster. I'm guessing that the person that had it before me did not know how to drive a standard so it went out but If this one goes out in 2,000 miles I'll know it was me...

it sure dosent sound like its you...

Skiping gears is a bad idea in general, but that wont kill your clutch from twice. Good luck with it

Sounds like Dodge may have been being an ass to you because you're female and drive a 5 speed, so they made assuptions about your driving. The car had 19,000 miles on it when you bought it. Who knows what the last owner(s) may have put it thru? Perhaps damage could have been done before and it just finally broke when you got it. The car should have a 3yr/36000mi warranty and they should have covered it. 12/12 is usually for repair work.

SHOPS ARE EVIL.

Well...
I dont know 'bout them 5 speeds... *cough*meandmy3speedautomatic*cough* I've notta clue how any clutch could've dropped on 2k miles. But onto the dealer thing... That shyt pisses me off too! I'ma 18 year old, nice dressing man, and when I walk in somewhere with the way I dress they kinda think they know more about the problem than I do. More than once have I shown a mechanic wrong. They just assume they know more than me by the way I dress (nice, honestly doesn't have a mechanic's appeal of coveralls) so they either just say something or give me an unbelievably high price. So, I laugh when I tell them what is wrong and just want them to fix it... They swear its something else... So I'd take my baby to another shop, sometimes they'll agree with me. But I hate mechanics... In general, not all, but... Seriously. So get'cha clutch fixed and go back to the dealership and tell 'em to lick ya ballz.

HA! Its a Dodge thang I took it to another shop to get it fixed because dodge wanted to charge me $850 to fix it screw that! Any who The place I took it took out my transmission to put in the new clutch and found a ground wire between the plate and the clutch and trans that attach to it. If you know about a 5 speed neon standard you know the ground goes behind that plate hell if you don't know a damn thing about cars you would still know there's not spose to be a 1/2 in. thick wire jammed into a part! We took some pics of it and took it to dodge and there saying they have nothing to do with it. THIS CAR HAD A NEW CLUTCH PUT IN IT AT 3,300 MILES!!!! I searched the work records (: that was the only time it showed the transmission being taken out! and guess who did it... dodge! Be for this happened the radio would fade in and out and when I was idling you would hear a clicking sound coming from the transmission... sense I got the car fixed (and the ground moved to the proper place) it has not been doing either of those things... humm. I love my car and I don't want to get a new one.. I don't blame her I blame the people who don't think I know how to drive or know any thing about cars! (dodge!)
