Unhappy well that can't be good

the tach on my car is, well, fucked. it operates normally under easy driving conditions, but when u step on the gas it goes crazy! The needle jumps all the way past redline, bounces back and basically looks like a heina on crack. I think it might be a problem with the linkage, but a mechanic couldnt find any problems. If anyone knows what might be wrong, plz help me out, and if not what is your recommendation for a supplement. (Shift light, aftermarket tach etc.) thanks for your time

past redline? are you sure your rev limiter works? well even still, i would get an aftermarket tach, more accurate and light comes on to tell you to shift.

yea. i think an aftermarket tach would do ok to solve that problem. and of course it comes w/ the shiftlight as tominos said so you can use that to your advantage.

Have you checke for codes...?

Might take a look at the igniter, they have a tendency to cause the tach to go crazy, when they start showing signs of failure, or the coil.

Either one could be breaking down, under a heavy load. It really has to be taken to a shop, with the right kind of meters. In order to put it under all the different operating conditions for testing... If you don't want to keep re-placing parts, until you find the right one... hehehe

ECU trouble codes. They are signals that the ecu emits showing wat's wrong with your car. OBD for ya. I think someone else should explain in more detail, cuz i sure don't know what i'm talking about

i dont think that will work!

a tach is electrical, its not linkage. when u put an aftermarket tach on, u have to tap into the wire that gives the signal to your stock tach. So wouldnt i have the same problems with an aftermarket tach?
