2000 GPgt No Brake lights...

First off, I am new to this forum, so I want to say hello to everyone.
My wife drives a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT that has no brake lights except for the third brake light. Flashers work well, turn signals work equally well. Running lights work and all fuses are good. I did a search and came up with too many posts with BRAKE LIGHT PROBLEMS in them so I looked through about 20 pages of posts in "Grand Prix". I came across several posts about the multifunction switch(turn signal switch?) being bad and needing replacement. Are there any posts on how to do this procedure on a 2000 GP? How can I be sure that this is my problem short of tearing it all down and replacing the switch?
Thanks Gregg

Welcome to AF.

Sounds like the multifunction switch. All brake light connections pass through it less the third brake light.

We have a tech procedure for a Buick Regal and the Grand Prix is similar. Let me know and I'll post it.

Re: 2000 GPgt No Brake lights...

Hey I got brake lights... but the damn thing wont start. Does putting a multi-function switch in the steering column reak havoc on the security system? It starts runs for about 3 secs and dies? I know that when you replace key switch the system has to re-learn the new switch. But I dont know about a MFswitch.
Please help I have one month left on the trans warranty and I need to have it looked at, its shifting HARD.
Gregg
