Picked up my master pull winch line today.

Can't wait to try it out this weekend. I couldn't believe how heavy the old cable was! I'm guessing about 25lbs.



Notice how the color changes. Master pull is making some custom lines that have the first 25' on the drum a different color than the remainder. By braiding the different color into the line, you can gauge your distance from the last few critical wraps during a let down. Personally I haven't been in a position that I had to winch my way DOWN something, but you never know.

Let me know how that thing works. I have heard good things about them from several people. The biggest complaint I have heard is that they don't last as long. But if you take care of them (they apparently require a lot of care, like a snatch strap), they last quite a while and don't pinch like cables do.

I was close to buying one, but I kept hearing people with more winching experience than me saying the heat buildup on the WARN (especially one mounted inside an ARB) could be a problem.

Keep us posted. We've got a few guinea pigs out there already.

I wish they had the dual color when I got mine
It will also help when you are just pulling the line out to recover a vehicle.

When my line gets really muddy I clean the rope with a climbing rope brush.
This helps keep dirt from wearing away the fibers.
I rock climb so care of rope is second nature for me and not a big deal.

Went rock crawling and had to winch a buddy out twice. The master pull worked great with one exception. After one good jolt to the line, it pulled in between and under the next level of wraps. It was impossible to pull out by hand and will prove to be a big PITA if this continues.

The line was tensioned on the spool that day so I don't what to think.

Rhombus, do you have this problem?

I'm wondering, how much room does the Master Pull line take up on the spool compared to cable?

masterpull's site has metal to rope conversions for all the winches so you can tell how much will fit. Plus just give the owner a call and tell him whatcha' got. He seemed pretty friendly.

I have had that problem once or twice but not a big deal (I was able to get it out).

You do have to be careful that it spools well on the reel.

Actually I talked to the owner and he said that he is coming out with a completely sheathed cable that will be more resistant to slipping under other layers.
