instrument cluster

its a 94 astro and the other night the cluster quit lighting up but the rest of the dash lights up and dims any suggestions?

i disassembled it to check for bad bulbs and there were none reassembled it and it worked...weird but o.k. with me

The process of removing the I/P and installing it may have been enough to wipe clean the contacts at the corner connectors.

Mine did the same thing. Digital or analog cluster? If analog, pull the cluster out and clean the contacts on both the cluster and dash connector sides with rubbing alcohol and a few q-tips. Before replacing the the cluster, carefully bend the metal tabs in the dash connector out a little. This will ensure a better connection when you replace the cluster. Did this on my '94 and has been fine ever since. I don't know if the digital cluster is the same or not.

if you have put a aftermarket sterio in it that may also be part of the problem the dimmer for the dash is wired into the radio factory harness
