i can't believe it actually worked

as i was heading into work the other day, i notice more traffic than usual. right as i pull up to the restaurant, i see a semi stalled in the middle of the road. me and a friend of mine pull over to see if he needs help or to be towed off the road.

apparently he already found someone to do that tho. in comes this guy driving a GEO TRACKER. i couldn't believe it. he just pulled right up and hooked up the chains like he thought he could pull a loaded semi off the road.

then he punches it. 4wd or not, the roads are slick from recent rain. i hear the thing rev up and the tires spin and start to put a decent amount of smoke. then the impossible happened: the semi started to move. 80,000 pounds of deisel powered boxiness pulled right off the road by a 1.6 liter engine. once they were both off the road, the tracker stops, leaking oil all over the place.

i talked to the guy afterward, he said he was pulling upwards of 5k rpms the whole time. he said he also had a header, intake, and cam. me and my friend were all prepared to pull this guy off with out big v8s, and we get showed up be a four banger!

i wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't seen it. ive never wished i had a video camera more in my whole life. GEO FTW?

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

hah... well once you get the weight moving, it doesn't take much to keep it going.

I think it's said it only takes what 20hp to keep the average car moving at 60mph? Or something rediculous like that.

Although, the Geo was a weeee bit out classed. haha.. Geo Tracker, 30 ton towing capacity.

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

Lol. That's funny.

What would have been even funnier is if somebody in a truck had tried it and gave up when they started spinning and this Geo came in and showed it up, lol.

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

Haha pretty good. I think there was a commercial exactly like that for the Tracker or some other very small SUV where there was a semi stalled and the guy pulled over and hooked the semi up and starts towing it.

I would be surprised if that thing still drove stright. There is no way he didn't fuck up his frame.

On Top Gear when Jeremy is driving the Veyron he was only using about 50HP to go like 70-80MPH.

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

i think the frame was alright, would've been a lot worse if it wasn't wet and he coulda got a bit more traction. engine wasn't doing so good tho

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

Was it towing downhill? For the sheer randomness of the story, I believe you, but wow. I would have bet money against that. Amazing.

Re: i can't believe it actually worked

you said yourself you can't believe it worked.

well i don't believe you at all. those trucks are pushing around 2,500lb/ft and have a lot of traction. so i can't see anything short of a highly tuned diesel truck (like a cummins 5.9) doing that.
