check engine light

Help, formerly a v dub man i now oun a gold 89 the check engine light came on last night at 181007 or something just wondering if it was cor something or just the idiot light. turned car off and on again and light went out. thanx

check engine light is trying to tell you something is wrong. you need to check your ECU error code to find out.F.A.Q & ECU codes

pull up your carpet on the floor board under the glove box. it sounds like something scary to do but, really it's not bad after you try it .

you'll see a shiney metal box...there is what looks like a little eye in the center...that's the L.E.D. stick your key in ignotion and click it over once (don't actaully start the car ) you'll see the led blink in a series. count the number of blinks. that number = error code. check the link above for what the error codes stand for.

EDIT: i forgot to mention. you might want to count the series of blinks a couple of times. it is possible to have 2+ error codes at the same time. so, if you count 2 or more different numbers...you're not going crazy, you have 2 errors

If nothing is actually wrong, disconnect the battery from the car for like 15 minutes and that should reset the ECU so it won't throw bad codes.
