Underdrive pullies

Can someone give me any drawbacks on underdrive pullies for a '00 Civic EX? What are the big disadvantages with them? If they free-up any HP I'm willing to pay for some. I have a stock stereo and no thoughts of getting a big ass system of any kind. Are they a bitch to install?

they are suppose to free up some hp, but not a whole lot. don't get your hopes up, the most hp you will see is about 1-3hp max. i don't know if its hard to install or not, but its all down way down where the alternator is. so you decide, and i believe there is a belt to remove also. its suppose to make hp by lightening the pully so your engine can turn it more freely.

hope that helps........

i'd say that the downside to the underdrive pulley is the install. Yes you have to remove the belt...without messing up your timing. You will have to get a pully puller to do the install. If you don't have one you can rent it at your local Pep Boys or Auto Zone for free (deposit necesarry). If you are not very confident about your ability to work on your engine....this install won't be any fun...it's not hard really...just a little time consuming.

I may be stupid, but I was under the impression that you only replace the power steering and the alternator pullies with AEM underdrive pully kit. Let me know if I'm missing something.

Thanks,

well.....the underdrive pully....is just what it says.....the pulley that drives the other pulleys. You can buy just the underdrive pulley....or you can buy the pulley kit. It would basically be the same install.....you just have to remove two pulleys instead of one.

actually.....now that i think about it.....I'm not sure how accurate that is...let me check on that. In any regard...the underdrive pulley is the underdrive pulley.....and the other pulleys are the other pulleys....How many times can I say pulley in one post..? pulleypulleypulley

the AEM Tru Power pulley kit.....is not an underdrive pulley kit.....it doesn't include the underdrive. You can get the underdrive pulley separately.
