Dynamat

Does anybody know what you can use instead of dynamt, its so expensive. Would rubberized undercoating do the trick. I was something that sprays on so its not as bulky as the sheets.

nope sorry man dynamatt is thick so it absorbes the the excess vibration but also keeps the sound within the car. i guess the best way to describe is...like when you sound proof a room by hanging foam on the walls.

i know this sounds crazy but if you could get your hands on a little piece...stick it on a piece of metal. drop a little fishing weight on it...then drop on a piece of just metal. you will instantly hear the difference.

So just get the sheets and cut them to fit? Is there a Dynamat spray for getting behind the rear panels on the metal.

Get RAAMmat 60, it's waaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper, and at least as good, if not better than dynomat extreme. awesome customer service as well.

http://www.raamaudio.com/products.htm

Peel and seal, or an equivalent asfault based roofing product also works (very inexpensive alternative)

Try that link. This is Dynamat w/o the logo. I used it in my bug after I used dynamat and found this. This is the EXACT same stuff! It is hella cheap too!

Oops, you wanted spray on

Spray on is not nearly as good as any sheet product, but Mcmaster Carr has some decent stuff (for spray deadeners).

Lower cost and just the same is Cascade. Check www.cascadeaudio.com. The correct install is to use strips of the stuff as needed. That is unless you have a monster proble then you can also use the liquid type.

I think the sheets should work good. Thats really cheap for it. How much you think I would need to do the entire car inside. I think if I order 4 sheets of 32"x54" I should have a good start. Thanks for the sites.

You also get the same results if you stick a piece of chewing gum on it.

I am an installer and I will tell you this, whoever invented dynamat is sitting rich somewhere. Most of the time the shit makes no noticeable difference. If you really want to know what dynamat is, I shall enlighten you. You know the black tar stuff that is "caulked" around the inside of your door panel? thats it baby. Its the stuff they put in between the plastic wrap in the door. You can buy a product from 3M called Strip Caulk. one day at work I was bored so I got the strip caulk out and rolled it together like bread dough and covered it with foil on one side, instant dynamat. Save your money.

Just because it's the original doesn't mean its the best. All it means is that they can charge more for it because it's got a logo stamped on it. For instance, there's a ton of shoes out there that are just as good as Nike's, but they don't cost $100... Why do you think Nike charges so much for their product when it's made over-seas in sweat-shops by little kids who make like 2 cents an hour? Because they have their logo on it, and they have to re-coup some of their advertising/marketing expenses... But it's the same shitty craftsmanship that you see in tons of other products. Incidentally, did you know that the guy who designed the Nike Swoosh™ was paid only $25 for his work?

And, just so you know, technological growth doesn't come from buying the same products from the same big corporations. It comes from the consumption of NEW products from NEW companies with NEW ideas.

just my tantrum also.

or rubberized under coat. I have used thick coats of it with sucess on odd shaped places. Just don't use it where it can get stuck to something (only under hard plastic panels, not carpet, not spare tire well) because it got hot in my car and stuff started melting together.

Would it make a difference if you just put a 1' square piece around the 6.5" round speakers in each door? I've seen just that done before and it's all I'd want to bother with, so just wondering it it's worth doing. By the way, the quality of sound is already really good in my car.
