For all you people that are fascinated by rice......

I give you SPUD!

We talk about rice a lot, but never seem to touch on its equivalents in other sorts of cars. I offer then, definitions of spud, culled from a past discussion on another forum.
______________________

1) spud is: to have white writing on your tyres
2) spud is: to drive a car that satan himself would be happy to be seen in that still can’t break 15.0 without using a tank of gas
3) spud is: to raise the back of the car "for looks"
4) spud is: to have a set of louvers on the back window
5) spud is: any car with chrome bumpers that have been painted black-and the paint is falling off.
6) spud is: fluffy dice
7) spud is: hotwires and eagers that protrude 3" past the guard
8) spud is: a peashooter exhaust with a 4-5" chrome tip bolted on
9 ) Spud is painting the diff housing (goes well with 3)
10 ) Spud is any Cortina. full stop.
11 ) Spudman is someone who thinks that real men smoke afforementioned Eagers (one at a time)
12 ) Spud is any car in "Once were Warriors”
13) spud is painting your car matt black so you dont have to wash it, you would rarther go to repco to get some more matt black paint and go over the dirt with it!! (been done!! )
14) spud is bogging up the roof of your rusty old car with dry mix concrete (also been done!!!)
15) spud is house paint on your car... especially a house paint chevy symbol on the back window! ... also seen done

----------------

rice refers to japanese vehicles that have been "riced"

spud however refurs to non jap vehicles that have a touch of "spudness".

cmon get with it!

spud would be..... a cordia turbo bonnet scoop on yr mk2 escort which is btw poo brown in colour and has somthing like "westies on tour" plastered accross the windscreen. It has a tow bar that is so high up in the air due to the raised rear end that it is rendered completely useless! It has a standard exhaust (not a crime on its own normally), with a chrome tip on it so large you could stuff a cat up it. It has a rev limiter commonly known as "valve bounce" which your mates are impressed by. It still has the ford dealers sticker on it from when it was new which is now mainly brown and cracked, youve taken the badges off (also not normally a crime) but you have left the holes in the panel where they were, or fitted chrome buttons there, you’ve taken the bumpers off and put stickers over the holes where the bumper irons were. Your performance upgrade is a ramflo filter.

I hope this clarifys it!

(Please don't take the above seriously, but I thought seeing as there is a lot of rice threads in here, everyone might get a bit of a laugh out of it! )

It was posted on another New Zealand car forum, so some of it might not make sense to anyone outside of NZ. :silly2:

What what? Now white walls are different then raised lettering, they are classic. The essence of style and class, but, still a staple of common place in a era since gone. Here in my circle "spud" cars are refered too as "redneck rides". They usualy consist of 80s mustangs 70s and 80s camaros and the odd monte carlo. Its kind of sad, not quite comparable to rice though.

Pretty much the same over here (although we call them Westies instead of rednecks. )

I can relate to "spud".......I know someone with an old nova where every body panel on it is a different color. I also know some one with a '65 mustang that uses bondo to prevent his roof from rusting out:smoker2:

A 1965 mustang would be classified as a classic, not a spud.

Bondo is cheap body filler...

Painting a car in black primer is not bad, it's a cheap way to paint after ripping off all your trim and stuff... Whitewall tires are classic. And removal of all trim is a good thing, as long as you fill in all the holes, and repaint afterwards(even if it's just primer).

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!

Spud is people who paint White lettering on tires(seen it done)

Quote:
4) spud is: to have a set of louvers on the back window
it helps when its hot outside

Quote:
3) spud is: to raise the back of the car "for looks
if you have over 400ft LBS of torque it helps because it makes the car go on wheel stands(looks cool if you see it happening)

Spud If the car is FWD

Quote:
13) spud is painting your car matt black so you dont have to wash it, you would rarther go to repco to get some more matt black paint and go over the dirt with it!! (been done!! )
whoever did that is retarded. i did it because after i wash it it would dry on its own plus its cheap paint same goes for Grey.

Quote:
15) spud is house paint on your car... especially a house paint chevy symbol on the back window! ... also seen done
some people have done it well but some have no talent in the art.

you missed

Spud is anyone with a late model car that has painted on flames and cant go ) to 60 in under 5 seconds

I've seen some very mean looking sleds (49'-51' Mercs, early 50's Fords, same period GM) painted simple black primer with a bit of pinstriping. Heck, back in the day, when street racing was T's and A's (Fords, people, Fords), having a car that was primer colored was standard. All the money was in your Rajo head and dual Stromberg 97's. Plus, paint is heavy. Not to say Layla, My MGB GT, is going to be primer colored, she'll be in a fresh coat of Royale Blue by summer next year.

But I do see what you're saying. There are stupid people in each camp of hot rodding. Remember Pro Street cars in the eighties like Rick Dobbertin's Pontiac J-2000? Every engine mod you could think of, twenty-inch rear slicks, and they barely even moved.
