new to forum
Hello all great forum I have read just about all the threads. Lots of info and great tips. I own a 2000 intrigue with 99 k on the meter. I have a major project on my hands. some helpful tips would be appreciated. first off a tuned up is changing coil packs a good idea with this many miles? lately when I first start up it stumbles but it doesnt stop running then it will smooth itself out! gas mileage stinks. my a/c condensor leaks the a/c compressor has metal shavings on the outside of the clutch and its making a little noise, these parts are going to be replaced along with the accumulator. Are there any o-rings or gaskets that need to be replaced along the way? I dont have a repair manual so its guess by golly, Iam replacing all struts, I have a slight clunking noise r.f. iam thinking hub bearing should I replace both sides? My exhaust is leaking by the resonator, probably should replace that to. This was a leased vehicile so iam thinking most of this stuff is original equipment! My blower motor is ready to launch out of the dash it took it hard when I had the flood on the passenger floor last summer some of that water reached the dash vents too. the drain tube leaves a lot to be desired its been baking in the engine heat is this a dealer item? So am I biting off more than i can chew. Its been a good car so far like to keep it a few more years. Any helpful hints are appreciated thanks.

It sounds like most of your problems can be remedied with some time and of course, money.

Re: new to forum
thanks for all the helpful replies, the exhaust iam not sure if its before or after. seems to be in the center of it all. Yes we'll be doing the a/c work our selfs. The blower motor is so loud, over the winter it would not come on at all, it would squeal. I would have to switch it on and off several times to get it to come on. when its on high it rattles like the squirell cage is loose. we'll check those bearing plates when we change those struts. thanks again to all who replied.

Re: new to forum
A glasspack should give you about the same result as a resonator, it might be a little bit louder though, so if thats a problem for you go for the longest one you can find, glasspacks are a heck of a lot cheaper than resonators... they can be found from several places
Summitt and Jegs are both good places, you might also check out Full Line Exhaust at www.fle-online.com they have some of the lesser known brands that are pretty darn cheap. or the area thats leaking might just be able to be rewelded, take it to an exhaust shop, and see what they say, take it with a grain of salt as they might try and sell you all kinds of things you dont really need. |

Re: new to forum
Ive also been seeing some various Intrigue parts up on Ebay for pretty darn cheap, there was an AC compressor for the 3.5 on there just the other day for a little over 100 bucks, it was used, but hey, if it works thats a steal.
There are also places that are selling entire engines, which may mean they have the car somewhere else, so it wouldnt hurt to ask the seller if they have parts like the condenser and whatnot you need to put up for sale. If you have a junkyard near you all these parts should be easy to find, but I know thats not always an option. It also wouldnt surprise me if the other W-body cars use the same AC condenser as the Intrigue, but confirming that would require a bit of searching, perhaps a project for me later

Re: new to forum
thanks to all who contributed info on parts, had some good prices on parts as well. unfortunatly, i paid 248.00 for compressor a little steep, but iam not going to put any used parts on to much of a hassle to change. I paid 99.00 for a condensor, and 54.00 for a new accumlator. with all that said glad I didnt have a shop do the a/c work it would have cost a fortune in labor. I had no clue to what I was getting myself into. Today is strut day at least we'll have access to a shop with air tools and a blue tip wrench!

The resonator removes or reduces secondary and resonant frequencies. With it removed the droning sound which will be heard in the cabin during cruising or long trips will be annoying. Also, during deceleration you may hear a popping sound.

Replacing the res with a glasspack probably wont make THAT much of a difference, you may not even notice it inside the car, you can barely hear the stock exhaust in the car most of the time, so I dont think it would be that big of a deal, and who knows...the Mrs. might take a liking to it But I think fixing the exhaust should probably be the least of your concerns, and exhaust leak that far back in the system isnt really hurting you that much I wouldnt think. You can get glasspacks for probably 30 bucks or less from the FLE place I linked you too earlier. check out their cheaps brands like IMCO |
