Rear Window Defroster

1st How long should the RW defroster run to do the job ???

2nd . How do you test to make sure the lines work all the way across, ive read it some where but cant find it.

#1, depends on how cold the window is... Usually within the first few minutes.

#2, I never did try to figure this out, but on my old Grand Am the good lines defrosted and the bad ones didn't - this caused an interesting pattern on the back window for the few times I used it!

1) I've found with all the GM vehicles I've owned, the defroster is on a timer. It goes off at a pre-determined time, usually it seems within a 5 to 10 minute range.
2) I pretty much agree with silicon's post above. If you discover an area that is not defrosting the window, follow the "defrost line'' and look for any breaks in the line. That is what is causing the line not to defrost that part of the window. There are repair kits on the market to fix the break(s) in the line to restore continuity, I'm not sure how well they work as I've never used one.
