Angry Automatic is wearing me down

Alright well, I ran my car today at a speedway outside of Reno. It ran a 15.5. That dissapointed the living shit out of me. I'm tired of the automatic tranny. It launches likes shit. When I powerbrake I can only rev to 2500. The car is worth 11500 stock, so I'm thinkin maybe I should sell it and buy a 97 hatch. Good idea? Any other suggestions? It will cost less, so I'll have left over money for mods. Now I've put a shit load of money into this damn automatic (stupid me) so I'm wondering if some of the parts I have on it would fit on a hatchback of the same generation? Like the C/F hood, the DC headers, and the Venom 400. What do you think. Or should I just keep the automatic and shut the f@#k up. tell me what you think?

well i think you should just do an engine swap and make a auto to manual conversion. that way you wont have to be worrying about the parts fitting the H/B. the only problem the conversion could cost you a pretty penny my conversion cost me $750 i think that was a heck of a deal

if you say the car is worth 11500 stock....just add up all the money you have put into it ...(cf hood, header, and the other stufff you said) and just raise the price accordinly...mabey ask 12500 for it ...then buy a 5spd

Fucking sparks! :rocket:

Just playing, actually they are good people. A manual conversion as stated will run anywhere from about $750-$1000 just depends on who does it and how complete it is. Obviously you will need a new peddle assemply, new shifter gate, guage cluster... its the little things that matter :smoka:

And whether or not you do it is upto you - personally if you plan on SELLING your car down the road, I wouldnt even bother with it. As well, this $750-$1000 is money you will never be able to get out of the car. But if you plan on driving your car into the dirt till it can no longer move - go for it.

Actually I was in the same situation. I had bought a 97 civic ex (auto) for about 10,200 (11,000 out the door) and it was a fun car. I just wanted better gas mileage for my communte to school which is 30 miles each way. Well I started going online more and learned about the civic si and I wanted to know what to do to my car like that one. Well one thing leads to another and I want to swap a b16a in. So not wanting to lose a lot of money on my new civic I look for a crx. Well finding a 88-91 crx si without rust is almost impossible. So I look into the 92-95 civics. The outside looks great on them but the inside is ugly as sin. So I'm back to my 97 civic I really do like my car except for the auto. So I weighed out my options and I find a 96 civic cx ( 5 speed) with 60k miles on it for 5500. I figure this is my chance. I tell the kid 5000 and we end up at 5200 and the car is mine. Now I have 2 civics and no money. So I sell my 97 civic ex for 8200 (had about 60k miles) which I had for about 2 years and a lot of fun in the snow ( that e brake turning is too much fun). So in conclusion I end up with a 96 hatch with power shit and a extra 3000 in my pocket that I'll use towards my b18c swap. I'll have a faster car better looking and cheap insurance rates. It amazed though how for power everything, moonroof, and a automatic transmission came out to be 3000. I'm happy with what I did and maybe my story will help you out as well.

Ya I found that same price. Do a search online for prices. Goto www.google.com and you can find anything from there. Best search engine.
Teck: $750 is damn good for a conversion. I need to find that place for my cousin, he wants to do switch 2.

I know this is an older post but it brings a question to mind. Can the conversion be done by yourself? I have looked around on how to do this myself but can't find any info. Anyone know of a place that might tell how to do it. An engine swap has come to mind but the engine itself is a sohc vtec with 47000 on it. Barely any miles and I hate to get rid of it without putting something on it.
