Inner-Brake Pad Wearing Down Fast!
My girlfriend currently owns a 2001 V-6 Accord coupe and having some weird problems with the rear brake pads. The rear inner brake pads are wearing down faster than the outter ones by 50% or more. She spoke with a Honda dealer salesperson and they told her that the rear inner pads DO wear down faster than the outter ones and said that this was normal. They said that the outter pads are just there as a resistance to push back on the inner pads when the two contract to stop the rotors. This sounds like the guy is just bullshitting her, but it seems to make sense in a way
 . Anyone know what could be the exact problem or any suggestions? Thanks!

It is "normal" for a Honda to use more inside then outside brake pad, but by 50%? Thats a bit much. The rears should also wear faster than the fronts(disc brakes)
How many miles on the car? Have the brake pads ever been replaces? Most Honda sale people dont know dick about cars, they do know how to screw you. Next time contact the service department for techinical questions.

honda uses floating type of calipers. floating type means caliper can move from side to side on pins for even brake pad wear. if pins got dirty or rusted it would prevent calipers to move freely and reasult of that is uneven pads wear.
why would pins can get dirty or rusted? it would happened if protective dust sheild got removed (very unlikely) or it got hole it (most common). if that happend, water would wash off all grease off those pins and eventually pin would start to rust.

Honda's also need proper maintenance with a brake service atleast every 15K
