How to check ecu code on a 95 G20?
Hi, I have a 95 G20 that has the engine check light on and I want to check the code. The shorting of the CHK and IGN pins does not work because I do not have a CHK pin on my consult connector for some reason. Also, the ECU unit does not have the screw that people are using on some models. Maybe the CHK and IGN pins are at another location. I think I have about 6 pins active on my Consult connector.
Thanks for any help. |

Pop off the panel to the left of your passenger's left foot. Your ECU is there. There is a clear sticker covering a screw. Peal the sticker off to expose the screw. Turn the ignition to the ON postion. using a flat head scewdriver, turn the screw on the ECU clockwise all the way, hold for two seconds, and turn back. It should start flashing it's codes. Write down the number of slow and fast pulses to represeent each error code. Five slow and five fast indicate no codes. To switch back from diagnostic mode, do the turn thing again. Turn ignition to off.
To clear the trouble light, you will need to do this again to reset the trouble codes. |

Thanks, I will try that Friday when I get the car back from my sister. I think it might be a good idea if the webmaster would put up a page on how to get the ecu code since the method and location seems to vary greatly between years.
I guess the box I was looking at that did not have the screw was not the ECU. I even opened it up to see if there was an internal screw and it had an AT&T chip in it. It was located in the panel to the left of the driver foot and had a big bunch of cable that I thought came from the Consult connector, but must have been from somewhere else. |

Nope, the ECU is located behind the center console down low by the firewall. Good Luck.

Resetting of the engine fault light on a G20
I have a 94 G20. I was doing an engine compression test on it and the action of disconnecting the ignition and revving the engine caused the ECU to register an "engine fault". I tried to short the pins suggested on this board. My ecu looked a little different, so I tried various methods. As a last ditch effort, I unplugged my battery (took off the +ve and -ve) for the night. The next morning, I reconnected the battery and the light was gone. Apparently, taking the battery off for extended periods of time causes the ECU to reset the error codes. Good luck bud!! I feel your pain ... I hated seeing my engine light on. Remember while taking the battery off, -ve first, then +ve, while reconnecting, +ve first and then -ve.
