Dumb Ricers

After reading through many threads i came to a realization.
People are modifying there cars blindly. (not everyone, there are many of us that know what we want and what it does) but many people just go out and buy Intake/Headers/Exhaust just cause that is what they think makes their car a super car. Indeed it is the basic first step when adding parts but if you are going to pay exuberant amounts of money for this equipment you should know whatthe hell they are going to do for you and exactly how. it is sad that all these Type-R guys are ruining the rest of us.
When tuning a honda all you have to do is open up a catalog and buy the stuff that everyone else buys (I know that many people reading this don't do this but this is directed at those who don't understand what a redline is)
I work on Saabs. And finding parts for them is very difficult. there are a few sites and companies that provide parts but overall we (my fellow saab guys) need to know what is going to happen when we add new parts.
I think what this rant is getting at is that too many people are 'tuning' their cars without knowing why. (don't get me wrong, the more car guys the better, i think).
read some articles, research how an engine works. it will pay off (and make you seem less ignorant.

(i know this is probably going to ruffle a few feathers so just understand that i know many of you know exactly what you are doing, for which i am happy. it is the rest of the people that don't)

well, obviously you know why you are doing it. you want more power. i was just refering to those who don't understand whay these parts give more power.

mabey i should explain the origin of the rant. I was browseing one of the forums here and found a thread where somebody asked if his redline would go up if he added headers and consequently if he should shift differently. If he understood what was happening when he added these mods instead of just doing it then he would not have asked such a dumb question.

I am just cranky today.

Oh.....ok!

I was mainly referring to the fact people go street race illegally and all. If you don't do that, then why are you tuning the car for a street racer if there isn't a track anywhere close and you a "good" citizen?

I mean, I tune mine a little, but not so much like some peepes here do 'cause, for one I actually can't drive by myself, but there is a track down in Florida where I spend my summers and I'm taking my car down there next summer. Back to my point though, I tune it only a little now because I don't have a track anywhere close and I will be driving by myself very soon.

I'm assuming though that this guy is doing it illegally and it's alomost a totally different conversation. Is that clear enough?

If done to the max, jab that go pedal through the floor in each gear and you'll red line at ZERO . One less idiot on the street!

I totally agree

one race, I was trying to get this guy to race me, he was acting tough with his crew, and his stationwagon.

We talked, he showed me his mighty 350

me- "have you done any mods?"
"yah"
"like what, heads, cam, intake, exaust?"
"yah"
.....
.....
"so you wanna race"
"what you got?"
"a 93 t-bird 5.0 with (insert mods here)"
"naw, I got the stock 6.11 gears"
"ummm....right"

My crew was laughing their asses off at the guy, and I had a hard time not laughing.

If he knew about his engine, and he did all the work he was claming, he probally woulda been proud. And if he knew anything, he would have known 6.11's...he would just spin the tires and NEVER get traction, for that matter would have a top speed oflike 40mph....lol

Hey Terminal: That story is hilarious. What's the night/car/street racing scene like out in L.A.? I live near chicago and there's what we call 'racing teams' (which mainly consists of civic's, accord's, and other japanese cars with euro-lights and tanabe exhast systems). Of course, the domestics around here are pretty sweet. One of the craziest things i've ever seen here is down at an abandoned factory..its the place everyone usually 'races', there were two riced-out accords going at it. The chaser car (car to see who won) was a '00 camaro SS. The cars lined up, and took off..and then the chaser took off after them. 20 seconds later an unmarked cop in a stratus turned on his lights, and three or four other squad cars came flying after the racers. From what i hear, only the camaro got away :evillaugh

its a joke where I go really, mostly noone races...but its changing. In LA its really awesome, but pure rice croud, and more than half hate whiteboys at the one I saw...so I advoid there. In Long Beach its random as hell, lots of people gather in the factory area, and lots in the oil drilling areas. Theres alot of rice, nomather where you go. I go to the races in Ventura county because my girl lives up there, and so i'm there when they happen, cops always come, everyone runs, everyone comes back. Lots of accidents, lots of fights, few races. But alot of shit talking, hence my story.

Last time though I raced a 2002 celica GT, I was toying with him, pulling, then letting him ahead, then pulling....it woulda done better if it didnt have 4 people in it.

Please remember to watch out for the cars with the highest spoiler and biggest stickers. They often frighten me off from racing. Those intimidating fart pipes also put me on edge. Who knows how much ungodly power is added by having an exhaust tip larger then the piping. Someday I will take a clue from these wise street sages and get rid of my cars and buy a real race car like a civic dx with all the goodies, including the obligatory upside down/crooked visor.

one time this kid tried telling me that by putting a larger exhaust tip on his car he could get a few more horses. Something along the lines of it helped pull the exhaust through. i just couldn't reason with him. he was convinced. and i was just confused as to hisd logic
