Couple newcomer questions.

Hi there. I just had a couple of questions about which car you guys would recommend getting with ~10k. I was kind of looking into a Mustang GT, Eclipse GSX or GS-T, or possibly a Mazda rx-7. Does anyone have any other suggestions on something I should look into? Also, are jettas worth anything stock, or even with mods? I was looking into a Jetta as well, but changed my mind somewhat because I don't really see much about them being raced, etc. Thanks ahead of time for anyones input.

Stock jetta's are just good for driving to work. If you mod them you will have a pretty fast car. If you purchase the new jetta's they come stock with about 200hp. I have a 1990 I swapped the vr6 engine from a corrado which was stupid becuase with the money I spent doing that I could've bought a brand new one . Jetta's will last you a long long time.

They run up into 300,000 miles without giving you too many problems. Just a tip, if anyone ever decides to get a 1991 jetta check the side door panel if it says made in mexico DONT GET IT, in 1991 for some reason mexico got some crappy parts and started making them people who owned these jetta's found out they fall apart after about a month lol..

You can definitly win a few races but of course its not a true race car. Defintly better than honda's but its still nothing like a rx7. If you want a car that will run forever without having to fix it too much and give you enough power get a jetta. If you want pure speed I wouldn't reccommend it. But with the right mods it can kick some ass..

thats a big point, durablility or all out speed or handling.

The Mustang should be pretty relyalable, and is defentally fast, and handles pretty well, there are assloads of mods for them as well

The RX-7 handles awesome from what I hear, and has a great speed, but can be very pricy if something breaks, and mods arnt as cheep or pleantyfull (they are there though)

Ther jetta wont be the fastest of the bunch, but Neuspeed makes a great deal of products for it. You can make it handle excelent, and go a hell of alot faster.

The Eclipse GSX handles great (awd) and is very fast, the GST is very very fast for stock, but dosent handle quite as well.

Big question, what years of each were you looking into?

The origional RX-7's were shit, the 74-80 mustangs were dogs, and theres a huge difference between 1st and 2nd gen GSX/GST's

I was thinking about getting a 95(or sometime before that) Mustang, and from researching the prices on those, they're not too expensive for a decent stock one.

I'm not really sure about the GSX or GST, maybe around the same year, '95.

Any recommendations would be great, as I don't really have a set mind on what I want to get. But I would like to get something that has nice speed, but also has good handling.

I would go with the gsx, those bugers are fast with the right mods and such. you will be able to launch like a bat outta hell with that AWD too. the first gens make great sleepers, I've seen some in the 11's. If that were my choices.... yeah, definately the gsx, and I'm not even a big import kind of guy.
mustangs on the other hand sound good and look good too though, but would take plenty of $$$ to even get into the 13's unless you spray.

I say go for either the Eclipse GSX 'cause you can't beat turbo and AWD, or the RX-7 because rotary engines kick ass.

You could get a nice '92-'95 volkswagen Corrado with the VR-6 engine and low miles for something like 8 to 9k. Some people think they are ugly, but personally I like the look of the car. They are real pocket rockets too!

If I were to go with an Eclipse GSX, what years would you guys recommend? Are there any years that I should NOT get? Thanks in advance for any help.

Come on know forget the gsx. Get a 94/95 mustang. The 5.0 is easy to mod and work on, and parts are cheap. But, if not, the awd on the GSX would be nice in the winter.

I noticed one of your mods was an h-pipe. Now I've heard of a Y-pipe and a B-pipe, but what is an h pipe? From the way they look, it seems like it would be the same thing as a Y-pipe

It is a "h" shaped pipe that in the off-road version eliminates the cats. It gets its "h" shape from a short crossover piece that connects the two sides of the exhaust system on duel exhaust applications.
