Question A couple of questions about the 300ZX!!

Hey guys!

Well Im new to this board and I have a couple of questions for ya.

I currently own a 1990 MR2 Turbo, we just brought a 1994 supercharged Toyota Trueno for my missus. Only problem is while we both love the Trueno we have problems! Turns out there are some faults that I didn't know about and to cut a long story short I will probably be getting my $ back!

The Trueno was a manual and while I know it's sad the missus was going to learn to drive it (She only drives autos!) she cant! She wants an auto. Anyways she ALWAYS love the 300ZX but because we wanted the twin turbo model (Her old man wouldn't let her!) we never bothered. Now we are thinking a Non turbo, Automatic 300ZX. It will be a daily driver and I know the make great long distance tourers. So what if any (If I remember right there are) the differences between the 89 models and the 90+ ones. I remember some GOOD changes were made between the models.

They are definitly withen our price range as I have seen half a dozen just tonight for a auto, non-turbo 89-91 between $8400.00 and $10,500.00 (NZD).

I have read about the things to do to the turbo are they the same and what sould I look out for as I don't fancy ending up in the same situation that Im in now!

Any info would be great!!
Oh and if your interested in other cars as well as 300ZX's my website has some AWESOME clips for you to download

Enjoy

Cheers

My father owns an '89 TT auto and has had only one problem - the auto transmission blew up about 3 months after he got it....very expensive.

Since then (2 years down the track, pun intended) he has no no mechanical problems to speak of.....save the factory CD player not working occasionally (just wearing out). It is a great car and he raves about it all the time.

Whether or not the early NA Z's have auto transmission problems or not I cannot say, but I just though I would share that experience anyway.

The differences between a 89 and 90? Not alot. However, you should go for the 92+ because they look alot better and are a little more reliable. And if you go to autotrader.com, you can find them for around $6,000.

Thanks for the info guys!!

I would like to get a 92 or upwards but my budget doesn't allow for it and also they are hard to find above 92!! Remeber Im in NZ

All I can find is 89-91 and they range from about $8000.00 to $15,000 plus!! We have around $8500.00 to $10,000 only.

I'll keep looking though!!

Cheers

Cool Z's Rock

My first sports car was a 76 Pontiac Trans Am with a 455 ci engine that wouldn't pull a greasy string out of a cats a$$. Nearly gave that 1 away.
Second sports car-1988 300ZX, Awesome car; especially the handling on curvy roads. Totaled that 1 into the back of a farm tractor on the highway with no lights or reflectors on a pitch black night. God I miss that car.
Third sports car-1995 300ZX Coupe. Best of the 3. Sold it for financial reasons.
Will I buy another? Definitely! Somewhere there's a 2003 Z with my name etched on the glass
