Wire wheels and tires

I am trying to locate wire wheels which look like the picture below. I also need tires which fit the rims. The tires should be around 8 mm wide, and have a diametre of 2,4 cm. The wheels should have a diametre of around 1,7 cm.

I have seen several wire wheels online, but most are too wide or have no measurements on the site. This is the first time I buy aftermarket wheels so I would like to make it a good experience.

This is the reference photo:

These look like it but I'm not sure since the photo isn't big enough. Pegasus 1003D:

Re: Wire wheels and tires

Don't think there are any aftermarket wires like those, the best alternative would be the wires that come in the Tamiya Morgan kit and/or the wires in Tamiya's Jaguar MkII kit.

You can order those parts trees separately fromTamiya if you give the them the tree and kit number.

Check out the Aoshima 1967 MGB Kit. It comes with exactly the rims you're looking for. I have two of those kits, one built and one in the box (but unfortunately no pics yet).

BTW...it was released also by Revell / Germany (green car on box art)

Re: Wire wheels and tires

HRM offers a set of wheels much like these and Harold hand laces them with wire for an accurrate scale spoke but there pricey. But the exact demensions im not sure of but close to what your looking for.

Re: Wire wheels and tires

Thanks for your help guys. Offcourse the diametre dimensions should be in cm, not mm. I think I will go for a Tamiya kit since I do not know about the service of Aoshima and ordering parts from them. I need 5 wheels, and if I buy the whole kit I would like to have wheels for that car too.

Re: Wire wheels and tires

Those are a bit pricey... And I think too small with 4.9 mm. (49 mm as stated would be too wide for 1/24) I already bought a Tamiya morgan kit. I want to build that one anyway, it has 5 wheels in a kit like I need and it isn't very pricey.

Thanks

Re: Wire wheels and tires

What car are you trying to build / 1:1 wheel size do you need? I might be able to help with a set of 1:24 Aoshima / Airfix / Revell MGB wire wheels & tyres (14" at 1:1)* or those from a Tamiya Jag Mk2 (15" at 1:1) - only 4 though.

4, but possibly also a 5th - will need to check!

If you can only get 4, there's always the option of having the exposed spare wheel under a cover

Re: Wire wheels and tires

Dont know what you're building, but I used these Detail Master 40 spoke wheels on my Morgan. I only got four of them so I covered the spare:

I'm building a Panther Kallista. It has 195 cm wide tires, 14" wheels. I need 5 wheels since the original car does not have the spare tire covered. If you have 5 similar wheels that would be great!

Re: Wire wheels and tires

Sounds like you'll need the MGB wheels then, but I don't think they are as wide as that. I'll have a hunt around to see what I can find (I definately have 4!) and also check the measurements.

Re: Wire wheels and tires

I definately have 4 (from a kit I'm using for parts) - however a 5th would involve robbing one from a complete kit that I want to build.

Perhaps the Tamiya Morgan would be worth buying since it has 5 matching wire wheels, and I also I suspect that it would have quite a few other parts (hood & windscreen etc) that would be useful for building your Panther

Re: Wire wheels and tires

I have already bought it, the wheels are perfect, the tires are 8 mm wide, only 4 mm too big in diameter. The global layout of the car is the same so I can get some design ideas from it, and maybe use the windscreen like you mentioned.
And p9o1r1sche, That Morgan looks superb!
