WTF A$$ Hole Cop!

The other day i was coming home from work on this road with a 55mph speed limit at about 11:30 at night, the road was almost completely empty accept for 1 car that was following me. At first this car was a good 1/4 mile behind me but with me going about 60mph, it slowly caught up to me and didn't stop until it was about 5-6 feet from my rear bumper, passably with its brights on (i could barely see with the reflection form the rear view and 2 side mirrors). I normally would just slow down to the exact posted speed limit so they can pass or whatever, or sometimes if was pissed i use to break check them (until i got rearended one day), but after about 2 miles i figured since it was an empty road and it was 11pm so ide just speed up a bit until he backed off a little.
Well i got up to about no more than 75mph and the car finally backed off about 20 feet.... and started flashing red and blue lights, it was a state trooper. I was like "Oh SHIT, I'm fucked, this fucker tricked me". So i pull over and the cop hops out REALLY pissed off, acting like i did something extremely, terribly wrong and that I'm an awful person, talking down to me like i killed someone or something, literally yelling at me trying to intimidate me, and he tells me i was going 84mph in a 55mph zone. I tried to explain to him why i was speeding (in a reasonable voice and everything making sure not to insult or piss him off more) but almost every time i tried to say something he would interrupt me immediately so basically i couldn't explain anything to him and then he told me that he had his lights on the whole time and was chasing me for at least 1 mile.

I didn't argue because i already knew this guy is a fucked up asshole piece of shit lire so there was no reason to, all i said was i didn't see his lights. So then he lectures me for a few more mins acting like I'm a piece of shit yelling at me about how hes "letting me off real easy" and then wrights me a ticket for 86 in a 55mph zone and said i should be thankful he didn't write me up for "running from him for so long" and that he didn't take my car from me.

I'm going to talk to a lawyer for sure because this is extremely fucked up. Complete Bullshit

If you truly weren't doing 86 then ask to see the radar report. They have to provide you with that if requested. if his radar gun was found to be in error that day, your case is dismissed. I'm not exactly sure how it works if you just say a cop flat out lied about the speed to bring you up into a higher ticket bracket. I don't think they have to submit any report showing the speed they registered you traveling in the radar gun.

How much is the ticket? If its less than $200 its not even worth getting a lawyer

A) because fighting any government agency especially police is a tedious, drawn out process. I know this first hand from when a cop ran into my car and I had to play their little game to have their insurance pay for my repairs. It took 4 months for me to get a bumper buffed up and a taillight replaced.

B) A lawyer is gonna run you at least $100 an hour of case work

put A and B together, you're out a hell of a lot more than you started with and thats even if you win, which I doubt.

edit: your local laws may vary with what I posted but in Florida at least, an illegal act witnessed by an officer is active for 30 days meaning that an officer can file an official report for the act and have a warrant issued for your arrest. So if you sped up while he was on your ass running your plates and/or attempting to flash you down (wether you saw it or not, those were probably the brights you referenced before btw) then by law you attempted to evade an officer, failed to merge right in the path of an emergency vehicle, and who knows what other petty misdemeanors they can come up with. So if you think you were in the wrong in any way during the event (which you already said you were) then I suggest you suck it up, pay the ticket and next time a car pulls onyour ass like that on an empty road and doesn't seem intent on passing you, either check to see if they are cops or call the cops yourself.

All that shit about running from him is bullshit from what you said but you just handed your ass to him by gunning it, the higher speed maybe BS too, from what you say it is but if he wasn't running radar on you or had to gun HIS engine to 84 or so to catch up to you quickly then there you go. Otherwise he may have eyeballed it, current speed 55mph-60mph then timed how fast you past a landmark etc.

Pay the fine and learn from your mistake like you did about 'brake checking' people. EVERYBODY should know that if someone is tailgating you they are the cops when they are about to pull you over OR want you to let them pass so let them pass or pull over whatever is appropriate.

Cops can clock you from the rear. The physics of how it works, I don't know I'm not a scientist by any stretch of the imagination. But my friend is on his way to the police academy and told me quite definitively that they have radar guns to do it. So the cop might have had some radar to back it up

Simple physics - relative motion. The gun pings you, sees how fast you're going, takes into account how fast the police car is going, and gives a final account of speed.

ie, cop car going 30

Radar gun reads you moving away from it at say 25.

25+30 = 55. You get a ticket for going 55 in a 30

(ballpark figures - I don't know what your speed limits are)

someone following you with brights on is always gonna be a cop (or a stalker with a gun or even your ex-wife maybe ). Living in a small town i've been able to learn how the law enforcement agencies in my area (local cops, sheriff, and state patrol) work out here when they're on patrol in the day and night and is very similar to what you described. many times when i'm on a lonely stretch of road at night CSP sometimes follow me from as far as 1/2 mile behind me and stay there, sometime they come up close maybe turn on the brights so i can't see for whatever reason, but i just keep my cool and drive as normal whether their brights are distracting or not. once they accept the fact that i'm not gonna do something stupid (like speed up ) they stop and flip a bitch and speed away, then i speed away. cops are assholes, yes, but they got quotas to maintain and they'll do anything to bust people sometimes and you did exactly what he wanted you to do (probably).

you could probably do that in vegas or another city where there's too many murders to solve for them to care. otherwise, . The only thing you should do is not play their game, which is what they want you to do. Then when you do something stupid they pull ya into the system and then you gotta pay money to try to get out of it or whatever and then add all these nonsense "funds" and what not in addition to your fines. If they tail ya, anytime, just remember the things you learned when you were taught how to drive (hands in the right position, stop for 3 sec. at stop, etc. etc.). then they pull away and THEN you can go "bitch motherfuckin' cop" or whatever you say when they can't hear you.

Yeah i know i was breaking the law so i do deserve the ticket. I guess ill just pay it since it is less than $200, but man that sucks, I was so pissed at the time i wrote that because i felt like the cop almoast made me break the law in a way, then punished me for it. Thats kinda what i feel happened.

O well i guess ill just have to pay it.
