What exactly is Resin?
Reason I'm asking is because some of the aftermarket stuff I plan on ordering to begin my new hobby of modifying 1:18 scale diecasts, is made of resin. I want to know how it and diecast can be put together and such. I'm looking to do a project car very soon and some body kits, hoods, etc are available in resin.

Resin plastic is a mix of liquid plastics that catalyze at room temperature.
There are different types of "resin" and different ways of curing the mold. Most resin is cured at normal atmospheric pressure,this causes air to be trapped in the resin in small bubbles ,commonly called pin holes, which always show up after the primer or color coat. Better resin is cured under pressure which forces the air bubbles out and can produce kit quality castings ! 5 minute epoxy or "super glue"are the best adhesives to use on resin. Automotive paints and putty can be used on most resins without the problems of crazing or melting inherent with styrene plastics. always check on an inconspicuous place before going ahead with paint,putty or glue :bandit: MiKE

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will stick to already molded resin or at least order it in the shape that I want. I don't think I can be bothered with doing all of that.

I use resin parts very often I even mold my own with excellant results as far as I am concerned there is really no difference. If you want I can give you my web site address and you can see for yourself.
