Keyless entry range too low

I have a 97 GTP. It came with keyless entry but i almost have to walk next to the car to make it work.So basically it serves only the function of opening the trunk and all four doors from outside as the range is less tahn 20 ft.
Does any one know a way to increase the range? I have already changed the batteries.
Thanks

Re: Keyless entry range too low

Was the range any better when you first got the car?

The remote is a possibility or the RCDLR module located in the dash. The RCDLR is the device that receives the signal (receiver) from the remote key fob. The key fob is the transmitter.

The 20 feet range is marginal at best but better than nothing. To give you an idea the remote for my GTP will trigger in a range of 30 - 40 feet but it varies.

If you have or can get a spare remote try that because troubleshooting a RCDLR problem is not fun and especially if the RCDLR is the problem. Can be but difficult to access. Good luck!

Re: Keyless entry range too low

I've heard of some guys making antenna for the reciever so they can increase the range. The factory ones on GP I guess don't have an antenna.

I've heard of that but I don't believe the RCDLR receiver has an input for an antenna but where there is a will there is a way. The RCDLR mounts to the metal bar frame in the dash. An antenna could be hooked up to that with an RF filter. Or maybe a simple wire of a certain length screwed onto the metal bar may help range. Hard to say but worth experimenting providing that the remote and RCDLR are good.

What range are you getting out of your GT?
