Re: 97 Tercel timing belt interval?

Right off the AllData page...........

1.5L (3E-E & 5E-FE)

On 1997 & prior models, under normal service conditions manufacturer does not recommend a specific maintenance interval. On 1997 & prior models, for vehicles operated under conditions of excessive idling & or low speed driving for long distances, replace at 60,000 mile intervals. On 1998 models except non-turbocharged Supra, replace every 90,000 miles if vehicle operates under severe conditions such as extensive idling & or low speed driving for extended ranges. On 1998 non-turbocharged Supra, replace every 90,000 miles or 72 months. On 1999 & later models replace every 90,000 miles or 72 months.

Gates recommends changing every 60k under severe use conditions.
