Re: electric windows malfunction

It would be helpful if you could identify what year and model Century.

Cool Re: electric windows malfunction

If you haven't all ready, Check the fuse. If the fuse looks good, change it anyway. Check all the fuses just in case of confusion or even mislabeling.

Next, there may be a fusible link (a thinner wire that melts to save the major wiring harness from damage). Also check for connections. I have had things stop working before due to a bent pin in a frame wiring harness connector under the molding. It appeared good until unplugged and examined.

Also, sometimes wiring has problems from the frame to the door, so pull the boot off of the drivers side door and inspect the wiring (since all the window controls go through the drivers door control since it is the master control).

If all the windows stopped working simultaneously, that is probably good news as it is not likely that all of the windows motors or tracks would have problems at the same time.

In my Century, the window switch can be removed without pulling off the door panel if you are careful with a small screw driver not to damage anything. If you can get it off, test for power. The direction of up or down is accomplished by switching the polarity.

If you take any door molding off, it should be the drivers door since the master controls are in that door.

Tell us what year and model and we may be able to give more specific advice.
