2001 pontiac grand prix... need help with power doors

i just bought a 2001 pontiac grand prix, and the power doors seem to lock, but not unlock with the power door lock button. Occasionally while driving, the doors will all unlock at the same time, but both power door locks do not unlock them. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have remote keyless entry with the key fob? If so, what do the door locks do when using the remote?

Power door locks are easy to troubleshoot. However, in a worse case scenario you could have a bad body control module (BCM) or related wiring.

The Grand Prix has different levels of BCM. Most have anti-theft/remote but basic models like the SE may not. You have to run a VIN check to see if your BCM can support it or check the part number on the BCM.

The BCM is located on the left hand side of the dashboard, underneath. You'll need to remove the kick panel. It has connectors with a lot of wires so you could check that. To troubleshoot it requires a GM wiring diagram like contained in the service manual.

If it is found bad it will require programming which can only be done by a GM dealer.

Vinnie, PM me with the last 8 digits of your VIN, and I can tell you if you have keyless entry, and the proper transmitter number you need if it does. Bob is correct that if it's a BCM (Body Control Module). it can only be programmed at a dealer.

Remove the connectors at the bottom of the BCM module and then reconnect. If that doesn't work then do the wiggle test on the wiring harness as you work the door locks. It may be a wiring problem and not the BCM itself.

Re: 2001 pontiac grand prix... need help with power doors

i was getting a leak through the passenger side window, when i removed the panel to check it out a plastic box fell out with what looks like an alarm box. it say's GM Accessories on the box. There is a place for two fuses, a little red light and a push button. i played with the fuses and the door locks now work. i think this vehicle is equipped with an alarm and was interferring with the door locks. i traced some of the wires and some go into the door and another into the engine compartment to a siren. the siren also say's GM Accessories. i don't know if this is a factory installed or dealer installed alarm. does anyone know how i can get a wiring diagram so i can get it to work?
