Smile Help: 97' 4runner VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR Help

My 97' 4 runner failed its emission inspection due to a failed On Board Diagnostic Code. The code was identified as "P1700 - Manufacturer Controlled Transmission". Does anyone know what this code referrs to and is it something that I might be able to repair? Or is this something to let a Toyota Service Center handle?

thank you very much for your help and reply..... joe

Re: Help:97' 4runner Check Engine Code P1700

It is likely that you have a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor or bad circuit (loose connection or bad wiring).
