Transmission problem?

1997 taurus GL AX4N
I still have the tire problem, but today a new one started, the speedometer stoped working and the rpm's were very high before it shifted with a jerk, and the speed was cut way down. On the way home everything went back to normal (for now). The transmission fluid, filter was just changed, the book and dipstick said mercon, it doesen't take mercon v right? Also someone tried to start the car wile it was running, I don't know if that might be part of the problem.

Re: Transmission problem?

Have the vehicle speed sensor checked. Also look at the wiring going to the sensor.

Re: Transmission problem?

It will do better with Mercon V if you can afford it.
