Unhappy 89 Accord fuel problem

My 89 Accord dx is carburated. After it sets for 10 hrs., when starting it runs for 20 seconds and shuts off. You have to prime the carb to get it to start then it runs and starts fine until it sets again. Now it shuts of and on like it is running out of fuel. If you pull over and let it idle for a couple of minues (like you are letting the bowl fill up with fuel), you are good for about a half of mile until it begins again. I had this shutting off and on problem a few weeks ago but it cleared up. Now it does it all the time. I have replaced the fuel filters. The ones that came off were clear. Can anybody help me? In advance, Thanks for your help.

Rodney

89 Accord fuel problem

I admit i dont know much about cars but i do know a 3G accord. Im pretty sure you need a new fuel pump. THaats what it sounds like to me, so check it out ok. I wont lie to you and tell you im a real technical person when it comes to car engines but thos 3G's are my babys and i can almost always diagnose the problem and fix it without ever haveing to take it to a mechanic to find out whats wrong. Trying to fix it myself however is a different story, those cars are a major bitch to work on. Try the fuel pump.

you should get a fuel pressure guage to see if any fuel is coming out. thats a for sure way to figure if your pump is working. :bandit:
