4.6 vs 525i vs New Mustang

Well, the clutch in the SC went, so I'm back to driving the "Oil Burner" teal Thunderbird...aka the one that "sounds nice"

My friend messed up his truck trying to drift it, so a trip to the junkyard was in order. His ride was a BMW 525i. We get the parts we need, and head back to town.

We catch two redlights. I pull up next to him, with a nice shit eating grin, because I know whats about to happen. Light changes to green and we both nail it. By 1st were side by side, by 2nd, I'm nearly a carlength ahead, by 3rd I've put a bus length, by 90, multiple car lengths. The second time had the same results.

After that, I decide to carry on, and watch him get stuck in traffic. A few hundred yeards ahead, I see a Sonic Blue 05+ Mustang swerving around traffic...hmmm...

I decide to catch up... only to be dissapointed by a single tail pipe... I figure, the new 4.0 V6 Mustangs have the same power output as the older 5.0 Mustangs, so what the hell. We both weave out of traffic, and catch the 3 lane, straight.. with zero traffic. I get close to him and punch it and pass... just to let him hear the sound of a V8. I check my rearview to see if he wants to play... i wait.. and wait... no go. sonovabitch. I check my rear view one more time for the hell of it, and I see the Mustang enclosing fast. Heh.. Hes at my rear quarter, at about 50 when I punch it. The 4R70W drops a gear, and the 4.6 opens wide. I immediately stop the pulling to a mere walk. The 4.6 hits the power band and were dead even. I glance at the speedo, a tick over 90, keep my foot in it to 110, him maybe less then a fender ahead. A Jeep is in my lane, middle lane open, and Mustang all the way left....

I merge over at the same time the Mustang does. WTF? Is he trying to box me in. I'm closing in fast on the Jeep, and I'm half way inbetween lanes. Slam on the brakes, swerve, or push the Mustang out of the way.. I chose the later. I get literally 6 inches away from the Mustang before he moves, and about 50ft from behind the Jeep before I can get fully in the center lane. HOLY SHIT! I pass the Mustang. We both exchange "WTF!!??" looks... and I continue on my way. I check my mirror again to see where he is, and wouldnt ya know it, hes comming back for more.

He gets next to me at about a 45-50 roll, and we both punch it at the same time. The better geared Mustang gets the jump, the V8 keeps up with him. By 70-80 hes starting to walk away, by 90-115, were dead even, with him maybe a fender ahead... then we start to hit some traffic.. I brake early so I dont have a replay of before. We catch a red light, and he jumps infront of me. He sticks his head out the window..

Him: "6 or an 8?"
Me: "8!"
Him: (pointing at hood) "Its a 6!!"
Me:
Me: (Thinking to myself... Hm. Your car is nearly brand new, has nearly the same power as a 5.0EFI Foxbody, and weighs a hell of a lot less then my T-Bird)

The light changes green, and the lower gearing in the Mustang gets the jump. From a dead stop my car is a pig (3.08 Open) and he gets a buslength on me, but by 40 I'm reeling him in, when he decides to turn off.....

Re: 4.6 vs 525i vs New Mustang

The V6 owns you, and the governor. You must fear the minivan. LOL J/K

I still remember your story about the loss to the minivan cause you hit the governor on your T Bird. I told my buddy about it, and then informed him that some of the Chevy LS1 Z28 Camaros had 235 rubber on them and a 109mph governor on them. He couldn't stop laughing.

In any even those new V6 stangs aren't a joke. I've heard that they run low 15's to high 14's stock. Think you'll need the S/C to beat one.

Try not to pour too much money in the S/C though, cause my buddy had alot of problems with his.

Nice runs, but be careful. You never want to find out if the other driver will move or not. There are some crazy idiots out there.

Re: 4.6 vs 525i vs New Mustang

he doesnt need a s/c to beat a new v6 stang, he just needs to bypass that governor he has. The new v6 stangs have a top speed of 113. I beat one and I beat him before his limiter kicked in and I was stock so there isnt much to fear with those new V6's

Your car also doesn't weigh 3800+lbs with tall highway cruising gearing.

The T-bird is one of those cars you drive long distances in... has just enough power to get out of its own way and pass slower traffic on the open highway. It's wasn't designed for 'racing' purposes... but they do alright at it cause they have a decent amount of power... and they are pretty stable at speed on the highway.

TerminalVelocity used to race his 5.0 V8 Tbird all over the place, although his was dark dark blue, so lots of folks thought he was a cop... especially at night on the freeway. Which was nice, cause people would casually get out of our way when we were going some place down the highway.

Re: 4.6 vs 525i vs New Mustang

Yea, my friend has an LT1 Trans Am, and says his govener kicks in around 110. I didnt believe him. lol..

If we had a top speed run, I would have beat him. 118>113..lol

And yea, my SC is out of commission... thanks to a clogged fuel filter and a blown clutch... so Im back to the car that blues a huge puff of blue smoke out the exhaust

And I think I'm going to keep the govener.. I've heard some stories about people removing them with the stock drivetrain. "balooned" torque converters.. obliterating drive shafts (2-piece unit) etc. Besides that, when they came from the factory, the tires werent rated for high speeds. lol My car weighs about ~4100 with me, and all my other shit in it too.

Oof, that is an oinker. Oh well, good races anyway. When do you plan on having the S/C fixed?

And on a side note, has anyone even seen TV recently? Its been a while since I last saw him.

The S/C will be/is sold. Sold it for $1700 as is. (which is good. Its a car destined to be worth alot down the road, IMHO. One of 1,038 with a 5-speed. one of roughly 400 in Crimson Red.

And no, I am NOT going to be stuck in the teal car for much longer. I'm going down to Fredricksburg this weekend to look at a car... heres a hint. LT1, 2-Door... 4 seats....

Buy my LS1 WS6. I guarantee you'll smoke your dad's SS with it.
