My Latest F1 kit: 1/20 Mclaren MP4/8

Hi all, just finished my latest kit.
Used TS26 and TS36 for the main body, Tamiya acryics and Other enamels for the detail work. I did have some studio 27 decals but I messed up a major Marlboro one so had to scrap the idea
Let me know what you think

mp4/8

Killer job man! Got a question. Did you paint the ts-36 over the white paint or the plastic. And if over the plastic wich color did you shoot first?

Firstly I put down a coat of white plastic primer, then the TS26 (Pure white) then left it a week then masked off and sprayed the TS36.
The TS36 really shines too!

Nice, looks good colours are spot-on cos the red they used on the real thing was a flourescenty-type red and you've got it right!
Like it lots, did you put the telemetry aerial on the front yourself or was it in the kit? i thought about putting one on my Williams but didn't bother in the end

When funds allow I'm going for...
McLaren 4/13 Coulthard/Raikkonen(think it's the 4/13 anyway)
Ferrari F2001-regular colour scheme
Ferrari F2001-Italian GP colours(plain red, black nose)
Ferrari F2001-2002 season colours(Vodafone)
but at this moment in time i just haven't got the £80-£90 needed to pay for the buggers!

Thanks guys,
Fatboyslim:-
Yeah I put the aerial there myself, it does have a hole for one but there is no actual part for it, so its just a heated and stretched piece of sprue.
You like the F1 2001 I take it havent you already built one too?
I have the MP4/13, I love the Mclarens although the Marlboro ones were the best IMHO

No the Ferrari I built was the F1-2000
I don't particularly like the Ferrari's it's just that the F2001 was done in those three different colours plus i was actually at last years Italian G.P and I thought it was a nice gesture by the F1 teams to do what they did after the atrocities carried out in New York 'The Day That Shook The World' I believe the Sun newspaper said and by god did it!!
I'm a Sauber fan myself but I just LOVE F1 and enjoy building the kits.

F1 THE DADDY OF MOTORSPORT!!

Yes it was, would be a good model to build.
I'm not sure which kit I'll start next.

Excellent work again! Nice to see another F1 car from you.
I see you have the MP4/7 kit, you should build that one next, its a great kit to build and would look good next to the 4/8!

BTW 2 questions:-
1. what do you use for the heat shielding on the chassis under the exhausts? It doesnt look like paint.
2. what did u paint the inlet trumpets with? is it Alclad of some sort?

f1fan:-
Its just normal kitchen foil, I always use this for the 'heat shielding' I also use it for the mirrors.
The inlet trumpets were hand painted using Humbrol Metal Cote chrome silver enamel and a steady hand!

barnabei:-
No its pretty much straight out of the box, just things like foil were added (see above)

Thanks P-Man, always nice to get a compliment off you
I do my headers by initally spraying them a bright silver (usually silver leaf but depends what I have available), then dry brushing a mix of copper/gold to get my desired effect also a bit of a thin mix of blue/black at the joints, then leaving it for a few days then giving them a bit of a polish on the bends. Probably a bit of overkill as I always leave the engine covers on but i like the effect.
