Da hell, Ford?

http://www.recordnet.net/apps/pbcs.d...605100302/1003

WAY to cut off your lifeline, considering that most Mustang enthusiasts are in it to mod the car.

Re: Da hell, Ford?

That shows you how bad the situation at Ford must be that they are digging behind the cushions looking for spare change.

All the spare change they get from this won't save their ass. I think this is going to hurt a lot more than it will help.

Re: Da hell, Ford?

It's how US trademark laws work. You defend your trademark or you risk losing it. Ford is doing the right thing. If you're going to make a business off of somebody else's IP (intellectual property), then give them their due credit. Otherwise you are stealing.

Well, that's good to hear. They were always doing better than GM though. Do you know if their stocks are still at junk bond status?

You can take IP and shove it up your butt. That is something that people take too far like political correctness and this is a good example of it. I run a computer company called Synapse Computers. So if I see someone else use that anywhere on their product I should sue them? I don't own the word Synapse, hell they are the pathways in your brain. Guess I'll have to sue everyone for having them because it violates a trademark.

Ford has no grounds here. Mustang is a wild horse, not a word that they own. I guess they better sue the military contractor that made the P1 Mustang airplanes in the WWII days maybe there is some money there?

The Feb. 16 letter from Howard, Phillips and Andersen, a Utah law firm representing Ford on intellectual property enforcement matters, asked Mustangs Plus to:

» Transfer to the automaker the registration for mustangsplus.com.

» Submit to government offices all forms necessary to discontinue registration of the Mustangs Plus name.

» Cancel Internet and telephone directory listings and advertising under the Mustangs Plus name.

» Turn over for destruction all signs, banners, business cards and collateral materials.

» Issue a check to Ford for $10,000 in damages.
You can't tell me those demands aren't silly over the name of a BREED OF HORSE!!!!

Honestly I would fight it.

A trademark is a trademark whether it is Ford or Mustang. They are obligated to defend it if they wish to retain it. Mustang is a brand name, and if you are profiting off of that brand name (say you start a business called "Mustangs R Us"), you must have legal consent from Ford. If you do not, you are stealing.

If it isn't such a big deal as you imply, why put 'mustang' in a business name anyway? Because of the recognition that the brand name brings. Sorry, but it is a very big deal.

Are you 12 or something? It's trademark law. Try reading up on it and getting an informed opinion. Mustang is a brandname. If you use that brandname for your own profit without legal consent from Ford, you are stealing. This has nothing to do with horses or WWII fighter planes. If you want to market an original product of your own and you want to call it the Mustang, then knock yourself out.

No you wouldn't. You'd run your company into the ground.

Re: Da hell, Ford?

Im sure most of us just lost all respect for ford.
The man makes a honest living for 20 years for a car he thought was great. Then the makers of that car say "You can still do that, but just dont say the name of the car in your company at all" ""Give us everything that has the word "Mustang" on it so it can be destroyed"
And finnaly lets not froget the $10,000 check to ford for "Damages"
Retards.
