T4 (AWD) Primera Info

Thought I'd start a thread on 4WD Primeras so we could collect tech info here since it's hard to find. Please post anything you have which is relevent to 4WD Primeras - HNP10 here.

I have a '91 T4 primera and its a 5 speed manual. Model number on the build plate is HNP10 where the "N" represents AWD. Transaxle number on the build plate says RS5F32A FM43.

Some questions:

I think the "RS5F32A " defines the manual box - does anyone know what the "FM43" means?

Anyone know of a way to translate Japanese text from Jap websites?

Anyone know the manufacturer's lube oil recommendations for the 4WD components?

I've ordered a translated owners manual from www.hillside-books.com which I'm told covers the 4WD and has some manufacturer info added so I'll post anything useful it contains once it arrives.

I've been told the FSM the NZ dealerships use cover everything and is available for a meagre $700NZ ($298US)

OK, got the book now, still no lube specs for the T4 4WD system though. Here's some of the info on the T4 and other JDM P10 models for comparison/interest. The file needs to be opened in "Notepad" or you won't be able to read it.

Also there's a little spiel about the 4wd system. The file displays best in notepad. Once the file is open in notepad click "edit" and "wordwrap" to make it easier to read.

Thumbs up

To translate webpages go to http://babelfish.altavista.com

Enter in the URL and languages then hit translate...

sometimes you get back a bunch of non-sense. especially if its a personal webpage that uses a lot of slang. the translations dont come out so great. but if its a corporate website its usually pretty good...

Engine in the T4 listed as being the SR20DE ( note capital E) with 10:1 compression having 150PS@6400rpm (110kW or 147.5hp) and 19kg-m@4800rpm (186Nm or 137 foot-pounds). Jprimera has read a car test in a mag that dynoed the T4 @ 133whp.

What a great translater. I recommend people try it out. Its great for looking at all those Japanese Primera pages.
If you look at the P11 Body kits page it tells you all the prices in Japanese Yen of the different kits.

Hey those 2 txt attachments and the pic is dead T4 Primera.

Heres some info I found on the T4 4wd system, maybe similar to what you had posted?

It has viscous limited slip differential at the rear, front viscous coupling between the transfer case and driveshaft, and an open front differential. This means if a rear tire loses traction, power is transferred to the opposite wheel. If a front tire loses traction, some power can be transferred to the rear diff through the transfer case. It has ATTESA - Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-terrain, which is not a true 4WD.

Re: T4 Primera Info?????????

Does anyone know also if the Viscous coupling that controls the amount of power directed at the back wheels is located in the rear diff or in the front diff/gearbox?

... and how much torque/power could the standard driveshaft hold up to?

Exclamation Re: T4 Primera Info?????????

Hey i own a t4. one thing to note is that the attesa awd system can seize up (as mine has ) in which case power is directed constantly to all four wheels equally. What should happen is power should be devided unequally between the wheels in a situation such as a hard lock turn to avoid the car 'binding' to the road. I am in the process of finding a way to fix it, other models/makes of cars using the transfer case and viscous diff such as subies are known for the same problem. If anyone knows a way to solve this lemme know, otherwise I will update my progress.

Re: T4 Primera Info?????????

Also the t4 uses the mechanical attesa system where as gtr's use the attesa-ets (electronic tourqe split) system.

And thanks to t4 primera for the underbody pics
