AF Meet...or No Meet

That was once the question. I know that the thought of holding a National/International Meet for the members of AF has been tossed around quite a bit in the past, and with understandable apprehension, nothing has gone forward beyond a few words posted on AF (aside from smaller regional meets such as the one Kbslacker and JD@af attended in CT). But all that aside, is there even still interest? Is someone willing to put as much time and effort as needed into such an event?

There have been so many faces that pass through here, new, old, and some that seem to disappear forever, as they move on with their lives. Furthermore, there have been shifts in power, and even the separation of entire forms from AF.

Granted, having someone on board, such as the administrator from Off-Topic.net, who entirely funds the OT National Meets, would be helpful, but is there not a way to get around this?

I'm not necessarily trying to get anything started, nor am I volunteering to. However, I have a feeling that a lot of us have touched anothers life just from our association on the board. I personally have met three individuals from AF, and convinced another to join the boards. I know that many of you would love to meet each other. Why not give ourselves an excuse for it?

I know nothing will come of this thread beyond a few sharing of ideas, excuses, and pointing out of the inability to hold such an event, but it was something that was lurking in my thoughts.

Just random thoughts on a Saturday morning...

The anonymity of posting on any forum allows me to be myself and not scare the shit out of anyone. Posting or allowing others to see me probably would cause irrepairable damage to ones health and well being. I "talk" to other people directly through e-mail across the country and I think it's best left at that for me.

Would be a good idea, but very hard to do as we are so spread out.
I know there are a few i'd like to meet and have a beer or two.

Ive struck up a good friendship with the DOC though AF and hopefully get to meet one day.

When we had our Kiwi AF meet(Moopie/Moondog/Spec2/Tavdev/Darkness/Mr T and Razor it was a really good time.
Ive also meet up with lots of other people from oue Primera club in NZ and had a wonderful time also(only a couple post here at AF)

When I win the California Lottery, I'm going to chuck it all in and move to Tahiti and be Marlon Brando's neighbor. Isn't New Z. and Australia nearby, maybe I'll stop by and say hello! Keep your fingers crossed, tonights drawing comes up in 30 minutes! Sure beats working for a living.

Somehow I think that if you touched all Pman's models, they'd be the last thing you ever touched!

There are so many AFers I'd love to meet. I have only met one, and that was cool as it stood. I was supposed to meet another, but he never drove through. Then there are those who live so far away that I couldn't just up and make a visit. If I ever had the money, I probably would try to fund an all-out AF meet, but that is one of the biggest "What ifs" I face. Looks like I'll just have to keep dreaming.

Well, didn't win the lottery and I guess Tahiti will have to wait.

A national meet would be close to impossible.....we are basically stuck with regional meets as best....I help put together a few for the SE-R club in Tampa, and its near impossible to get people from one CITY together let alone a state or country!!!

I would like to meet some AFer's, just one problem.......

I don't want any of you look like and that'll ruin on how I picture you when I see your posts. As in an old thread.....I see most AFer's as there avatar

I more logical thought though would be to try a meeting in your surrounding area than the whole world!

And moss......doesn't that rule out all of us!?!

It's was nice to hear feedback from everyone, and a bit discouraging, I must admit, but the point was continually raised that to hold such a meet would be near impossible. Unfortunately, it sounds as if even regional meets are difficult to organize. I suppose that if two AFers are interested in meeting, they'll just have to do a bit of travelling.

So I knocked it out and it is still tied up under my bed as we speak

Now I just sit here hoping that we will get another crack at a meet up at Big Boys Toys at the end of the year
